Trump signs sweeping sanctions bill targeting Russia, Iran and North Korea
Trump signs bill approving new sanctions against RussiaThe president's signature comes after some speculation that he could veto or not sign the legislation, which passed both chambers of Congress in overwhelming votes last week. Vice President Mike Pence and other White House officials had signaled, however, that Mr. Trump planned to sign the bill into law.
While he signed the bill, the president made clear in a statement Wednesday that he's signing the bill "for the sake of national unity" even though he isn't satisfied with some of its provisions.
The new sanctions bill hits Russia's energy and defense sectors, and also includes fresh sanctions against Iran and North Korea.
...
After the Senate passed the sanctions on Iran and Russia 98-2, the bill languished in the House for more than a month amid a series of procedural fights. Then the House added North Korean sanctions before passing the measure 419-3, effectively forcing the Senate to swallow the new sanctions in order to get the legislation over the finish line before Congress left for its August congressional recess.
Cuban missile crisis.... Berlin wall... etc
Fam these Trump transcripts are so fucking wonderful. I am very excited about my new twitter bio "working for the local milk people".
House + Senate = Congress. House passed, Senate didn't so Congress didn't.
way to go smoothbrain
So transcripts from Trumps call to Australia and Mexico presidents got leaked. On the Mexico front he was practically begging/demanding that they stop going to the press saying that they won't pay for the wall cause otherwise he can't negotiate, while also calling New Hampshire a drug infested den. He also told the Australian PM that this was the most unpleasant call of the day. Yet Putin was pleasant.
Haha wtf. The last response about taxes made no fucking sense. If this isn't dementia then Idk.
You know, once his Presidency is eventually over, his supporters will claim all these leaks were intentional and that he was the most transparent President in history.
This is wrong, this does not violate the Iranian nuclear deal. These sanctions are about ballistic missile testing, which is separate from the deal, and the sanctions are not duplicative of the nuclear deal sanctions relief.
I don't believe that the American sentenced played much of a role in these sanctions. They were mainly about missile tests (in January and March of this year), as well as less-specific "human rights violations and terrorism funding".
Indeed, Iran is engaging in the same sort of bluster Trump has been about the other being in violation when they aren't.
It doesn't, and neither do Iran's ballistic missile tests (although I've been seeing a ton of bad shitleftist takes to the contrary and it's getting annoying)
The risk is that this escalation (Iran's missile tests, our sanctions) will continue to escalate until one side or the other actually does break the deal (which is what Trump/Iranian hardliners want). Hopefully cooler heads will prevail and this will mostly be a war of rhetoric.
my american friends, while I to the north am horrified by what is going on, I wish to sincerely thank you! Every morning I wake up and get to have a new laugh to start the day.
You're welcome.
Signed,
