Because if they didn't commit to a 5th season, Netflix wouldn't be able to cancel it on a cliffhanger after the 4th season bombs, as is tradition.

fair
They're definitely putting the cart before the horse, but at this point, it's like what the fuck else do they have since they cancel everything at whim.
I've been slowly hate watching the new season. It's better than the season 2 (Yen isn't trying to sell Ciri for crack this time around) but it's still quite bad. Cavill remains the only reason to watch it, he's still killing it as Geralt whilst being surrounded by mountains of shit.
The CGI has also taken a notable decline, blood sprays especially just look horrendous.
Making Jaskier/Dandelion bisexual is an astoundingly stupid decision on the part of the writers completely ignoring the nature of the character, but that's par for the course with the writers for this show.
same. the adaption died for me with how season 2 went + Cavill bailing out. damn shame Sapkowski penned a pretty good story in there, kinda doubt it ever gets told now.
Started watching this, on episode 3. Pretty "eh" so far but holy shit some of the green screen work is jarring as fuck! It looks like some shit highschoolers would do, like background stops moving behind them, or they pop out from the background very clearly.
Also i'm annoyed how the story is progressing compared to books. Regis was such a cool character and I loved the interaction between him and Geralt, but nope! Apparently they may be casting him for Season 4 but fuck this shit past Cavil.
So almost to end of this season and yeah, won't be watching anymore beyond this. It's fucking horrible and they did so much wrong. Just like GoT, they were handed a story on a silver platter that had a built in fan base and would allow them to tweak things a little but just roll with it and visualize it and make shit tons and they picked it up and shit all over it and tossed it out the window. At least GoT had the crap excuse that the final books hadn't come out yet.
Clearly someone needs to watch the Hexer
Spoiler: show

Producer Baginski says he understands why viewers who read the books would be “hurt” by a sudden change in the show, the decision to simplify plot points like The Witcher’s expansive geopolitics is often “necessary” when “a series is made for a huge mass of viewers, with different experiences, from different parts of the world, and a large part of them are Americans.”
Baginski continued, saying simplifications of plot points are just as painful for writers as it is for viewers but oversimplifications to an otherwise nuanced and complex topic are often “necessary” so that a show can reach a larger audience.
“When it comes to shows, the younger the public is, the logic of the plot is less significant…Those people grew up on TikTok and YouTube, they jump from video to video,” Baginsk said, adding that young folks gravitate more toward “just emotions.”
Lol
There was, the movie was basically a pilot for the show. But the bits I've watched it's not good. The guy playing Geralt is pretty good and the costumes look ok given the budget, but otherwise it's pretty ass. Sapkowski hated it, but he hates basically every adaption of the Witcher so that's whatever
Didn't he hate the games too lol
Even the Hexer at least got the relationship between Geralt and Dandelion correct. Netflix couldn't even get that.
