So heads up, Entertainment Weekly has a review absolutely trashing this, but it was found out that they only watched ep 1, part of 2 then skipped to 5, so I wouldn't put much stock in it.

Because life’s too short for Netflix drama running times, I skipped ahead to the fifth episode, which brings the Yennefer and Geralt plotlines together

I thought this was a joke quote until I actually read it. How the hell do these people have these jobs?

Yeah, I was just going to say this sort of stuff happens in games. Actually skipping 2.5 out of the first 5 episodes and writing a review is even more puzzling than the "I played 30% of the game, so here's my review"

Tired as fuck today, was super excited for this and stayed up till 3:30 am watching 1st two episodes. Too early to judge the whole thing but my first impression is while the show looks good I'm confused with the writing. Shit they've done in the first two episodes skims over important stories, it feels like wiki summaries of them. Winfry story should been a whole first episode I think it's gonna piss book fans off. They should've left Ciri out of it for a while and save all the money they spent of the battle, we really didn't need to see it, that's something that could've been just talked about later. Second episode has the same problem with Geralts part, just lightning pace rush through the story that should introduce you to the struggles elvees been going through. I think average viewer will be confused as fuck by it.

This being said, as Yen and Ciri have important roles in Geralt's life I can see why she is trying to give them equal time. Yes they play very important role but I think it would've been better if the first episode was completely about Geralts time in Blaviken. More screen time with Winfry, better built up, some more Witcher role, more interaction with locals. Maybe in last 5 min throw some Ciri stuff in and second episode completely about Yen.
The girl that played Winfry was great I wanted more of her.

Oh i agree totally. Definitely should have slowed down the pace but I don't know what their overall goal for plot is for the entirety of the season, or the series for that matter. Could be they are setting a quick pace to cover a lot of ground.

About to start ep 5 soon, ep3 so far was the best. They make really weird choices with the source material. I've read the first two books so I can fill the gaps but I imagine this shit can be very confusing for an average viewer.

episode 1 was pretty bad, henry cavill is giving it his best and the human v human fight choreography is good but its a really weird show outside of that. random ass dutch angles, super cliche dialogue and kinda shitty acting

My wife is usually down to give this type of thing a try, but she went downstairs mid episode 2. I doubt this goes over well with casual viewers. It’s very poorly done outside of costume and background.

I don't get why they are rushing through some of this material. They should've taken the first collection of short stories and just done that. Establish Geralt with Winfry and Striga stories with two episodes for each of them, build up the world a bit, explain some of the lore surrounding Witchers and than move on to adding Yen and Ciri. There's a lot of bad acting at this point but more I watch the more I hate the writing. It's fucking amateur. A piece of advice that stuck with me through the years was my professor telling me when you write something assume your reader knows nothing about the topic so explain your points accordingly. Mysteries are another thing but there's basic things that should be explained and shown to the viewers that they plow through really quick or don't explain at all. It's trying to cook 3 different cakes at the same time and none of them are baking properly. Every time some nonsense happens they throw in the word "Destiny" over and over to explain it. It's something that occurs in the books but not all the god damn time.
