Art of Manliness - General "how to be a better man" talks usually, which can be as broad as home improvement, philosophy, dress, confidence, exercise, history, etc.

You guys listen to too much serious shit. History, politics, economics, etc. I can't stand that stuff when I'm on the go, it's more for quiet time when I can actually sit and think about it. My personal picks

The Comedy Button - A bunch of current/former IGN employees just talking about nothing in particular (they specifically avoid talking about games, for the most part), usually just utter nonsense, but always enjoyable. The only podcast I've ever given money to and probably the only one I ever will. Max Scoville is my idealized self.

Dice Funk - A communal story-writing podcast masquerading as D&D podcast. I love the GM's style of writing, but the oversimplified combat and rule leniency in seasons 2/3 can be a bit annoying if you're in it for those sorts of things. Start with S2 if you want to give it a try.

Night Vale Presents - If you like surrealism, you'll like this. It's a small network of shows connected to the Welcome to Night Vale writers. Within the Wires is my personal favorite, with Alice Isn't Dead a close second. Welcome to Night Vale isn't bad itself but it started to get a little too fanservice-y and predictable as it went on and I eventually dropped it.

Pockets Full of Soup - A simple, warm-hearted show about gratitude. Can be extremely emotionally poignant, do not listen to while driving.

Are there any decent Game of Thrones podcasts you peeps recommend?

I'm in season 6 and the discussion thread is too lit for me.

dear god, you've really asked for it. https://soundcloud.com/bingemode

btw these were all recorded RECENTLY by Ringer staff so there could be some s6 and s7 spoilers mentioned as they talk about earlier stuff. I've no idea. Haven't listened.

Eps of season 1-6 will have spoilers of all seasons before season 7, fan theories, and deep dives into the lore.

If you're interested in some tube channels that have some interesting discussions I enjoy Green Hand, PJ and Ideas.

The above channels go both into books and show so you can watch theories, comments and discussions about what you like(Last Harpy is a popular one too but he conflates the two and I hate him for that).

    Since this was bumped...

*LRC Presents: All The President’s Lawyers. Weekly, ~30 min.
Josh Barro from KCRW’s Left Right Center and co-host Ken White from Popehat.com break down all the legal issues surrounding President Trump. Ken’s analysis is always on point, helped by his stint as a federal prosecutor.

*Make No Law. Monthly, ~60 min.
Ken White reviews precedent-setting Supreme Court cases and explains how they affect our First Amendment rights today. The “Fighting Words” doctrine, Justice Holmes’s “Fire in a crowded theater” opinion, First Amendment rights in the workplace, etc.

The Dollop with comedians Dave Anthony and Gareth Reynolds.
When it began in 2014, regular episodes ran 40-60 minutes, but now almost always exceed 90 min.
Occasionally they'll do a "smollop", which only runs 15-30 min.

Started as a bi-weekly podcast where avid historian Dave reads a horrible story from American history to his dumb friend Gareth, who has no idea what the topic will be.

So each episode becomes a fucking riot as Gareth slowly learns all of the horrible, disgusting, absolutely fucking twisted details of often famous episodes from our nation's past that will never, ever be printed in textbooks.
We are the worst people. Just awful. Over and over again. The consistency is incredible.
Since they're stand-ups comics, they also douse each episode in gallons of improv, solo riffing, and top-notch character work.
The whole formula is aces. Occasionally they even do a reverse-dollop, so Dave gets to experience the pains.
There is also a Mexican cat that I will not be discussing here.

They used to record every episode in one of their homes, but now regularly tour and do full episodes in front of huge live audiences.
They've also toured all of Australia twice, visited Auckland and Reykjavik once each, and when they travel they do stories about those locales.

So now it's become a big thing, and they've dialed it down to only 1 episode a week.
They sometimes invite guest co-hosts (e.g. Patton Oswalt, Wil Anderson).
I think Gareth got voted the #1 stand-up in LA in 2017 b/c of the notoriety he was getting.

    Can't recommend this one enough. It's a gem. 10/10

Mike Duncan’s History of Rome and Revolutions are both really good if you like history podcasts. They are my go-to when asked about podcasts at work and I can’t say Cum Town and CTH.

I like him better than Hardcore History because he keeps his episodes under an hour and breaks up the storylines into sizeable chunks.

The revolutions podcast particularly is superb, started with the English revolution, going through American, French, Haitian, Bolivarian, 1848, and currently on Mexican, and going into soviet sometime next year.

History of Rome was his starting point, with the audio quality being quite poor at the beginning, but the content itself is still good.

Not sure of BGs consumption of history for people not named AG, but there you have it.

My girlfriend and I binged a ton of episodes when driving to Charleston this past fall. The Rube is one of the funniest things I've ever listened to, easily my favorite episode. Also great are the Newport Sex Scandal, 10 Cent Beer Night, The Cereal Men (the last few minutes when the epiphany hits is on another fucking level), Reg Spiers, Kentucky Meat Shower
