As cringy as it seems, that's... exactly like Ed. It's just not a character who conforms well to live action. Complain if characters are different than the anime, complain if they're the same. /shrug

Fairly agreed. Only partway into episode 3 but watching the clip of Ed and I mean...it's just part of why anime doesn't translate well to live action. You simply can't get many of the oddities in anime to not be weird AF in live action, and so they always try to change it entirely to avoid such comparisons. I think the only thing that could have worked is finding an Ed to speak Japanese and having some sort of translation bot (to go with her hacker/computer genius) translate her weird lines, which I feel masks some of the cringe.
The only gripe so far (and we're only on episode three) is Vicious and Julia. They're just... off?
Jet Black is by far the best casting.
Like, were they trying to appease to some crowd or hit some quota or do something groundbreaking because it's by far the worst thing I've seen from the show and that person's career is fucked now.
Yeah I haven't made it to that part in the show, but that was awful. The first ep has my wife interested, but once she sees that I know she's gonna give me the side eye haha. Def the weakest cast choice by far.

I’m only on episode 3 but so far it’s a lot better than I expected. I like how they reused some of the music from the anime; I was legit naming the song titles out loud as they came on because they are so recognizable. I will say that Mustafa’s Jet Black is on point. He sounds just like the NA anime voice actor and has the same mannerisms.
Also in that third episode, for NBA fans, I'm fairly certain I saw the Heat's city edition logo during that first fight scene.

Actually, I was trying to confirm their age, because I know I saw it somewhere, but couldn’t find a source, so I can neither confirm nor deny age. But In case you didn’t see my edited post, the likely reason they kept it hidden was because Ed didn’t show up until the very end and the clip that’s out of Ed is literally all there is.
Just finished it, enjoyed it and would like more.
As for Ed being cringe as fuck, I don't really see it as a problem because that's about what you're gonna get translating the character to animation. Still feels like Ed and if the show did one thing really well it was nailing the feel of the Bebop crew.
Binged it yesturday, I actually enjoyed it. Jet by far best casting but everyone was fine.

Just didn't feel like Ed to me.
Tough to use a 13yr old girl but I don't see how anyone else could achieve the mannerisms. In my case I feel Ed would have been better off left out of the show if this is the result we were given.
It just feels like they didn't even do a casting with auditions for the part. Just here you go, person.
Julia's lips irk the fuck out of me.
Pretty sure this is the first work they've done. The only credit they have on IMDb is that episode.
Aaaaaaaand it's gone.
Thought the show was ass. There's a reason Vicious and Julia were the way they were in the actual series; to maintain that mysteriousness about it. As soon as they decided to flesh them out and do way more with em than they needed to... yeesh.
Jet was by far the best casting. Spike was boring. Faye was bad. Ed existed for about 30 seconds. Thoughts on Vicious/Julia should be obvious (terrible) -- overall, it was like a solid 5/10.
Some of the jokes were just so meh. The writing really feels like it came from someone who had no idea what the subject material was, or how to handle it. It also felt like they were too afraid to embrace what Bebop truly was (a space western) and tried to just make fun of situations where it shouldn't have been. I dunno.
I'm glad people seemed to enjoy it for what it was, but I couldn't stop cringing through mostly every episode. Doubt there will be a season 2 unless it was greenlit already.
