After doing all of the non arena optional quests, through MR4, I had enough mats to start piecing together resist sets. Annihilated Fulgur Anjanath, using Glutton again. An extra 120 ATK just doesn't beat 8 Spread 3 shots with no recoil and normal reload, though I'll use tigrex to initially neuter Diablos type horns, with Wyvern + some Mega Barrel bombs. Time for some more subspecies tomorrow.
Does anyone know if Lance's Guard Dash is boosted by Evade Window/Mantle or just the small bunny hops?
I’m close to MR 200 but really stupid to lock the temporal mantle upgrade to MR150. Anyhow been having a great time grinding and finally augmented my LBG and full armor. Love all ko when I’m soloing the endgame.
I've got a full Shara armor set and weapon now, finished the MR2 special arenas for red completion, 9 more to go.
I'm not looking forward to tempered elders in the endgame, non-tempered mobs in the endgame are still taking long to kill, and the MR 49 unlock tempered mobs hit pretty hard, and they were only threat 1.
Also just thinking out loud, with no experience of being far in Iceborne yet, but from a pure logical standpoint I'm guessing Tool Specialist is probably the best endgame defensive skill in the game now behind Health Boost simply because the longer you can keep mantles up the longer you have access to more skills. It can almost be both a defensive and offensive skill depending on what decorations you slot into your mantles.
It's enough that people are considering builds with 100% tool uptime.

So I picked up Long Sword. Pretty fun but man I'm bad with timing.
Also learned it's not a weapon you want if you have a Palico with you.
Finished the game and opened up Guilded Lands. I was right that the last boss wasn't really fun on HBG, so I farmed up the Velkana LBG and whopped it's butt several times, since it also spawned right away. Spawned Zingore and then did the arena quest, but still couldn't make a weapon, so now I'm at RNG's mercy. Had a Banbaro on the map when I took out Zingore, and he fuckin whooped Zing's ass whenever they met; I couldn't stop laughing when it broke some part of Zingore with a tree snow plow move. Thunder dog was in lightning mode too, which made it even better.
Farmed up a zombie set too, with just about everything HBG would want for most Guiding Lands stuff at the level I'm at. When Kirin spawns, the set will be even better. Now, if Capcom will only let us have universal transmog, for each set, I'll be a happy camper. SO many beautiful sets and no god damn way to see them due to skills. I imagine a rainbow dyed Namielle set would be freakin beautiful.
P.S, Black-viel Valk, in Ancient Forrest, is an Ass. That is all.
On a related note, as I was doing the optional quests, there's one where you have to get regular and ebony Odogaron.
I kill the normal one, start in on the tougher one, and in comes Savage Jho. Just chomps the dog, lifts him up, and calmly walks right off with Odo flailing about.
Oh, that was a good laugh.
Seriously though, if you're tanky enough to let Jho do the work for you, ride that train.
Quick question but anyone have any aiming tips for spirit thrust on longsword? It seems like for huge monsters such as Xeno or anything I can run under I often miss.
Try to save it when the monster is downed, or if it's making an animation commitment you know you can get the hit off. Longsword is about reading the monster far more than any other weapons. However once you get really good at it you can basically never get hit. Foresight slash can conter/evade 90% of the attacks on base (on PC so haven't tried Iceborne).
Thanks. I'm trying to get used to reading but it just sucks you can't use counter unless you're already in the middle of a chain. You won't believe how many times I screwed the pooch trying to counter while idle.
The best thing I did learning LS is just to take things slow and delay your next attack as much as possible rather than spamming attacks.
Just let attacks linger and confirm what the monster is doing before going for another attack, that way you'll be far more ready to react with foresight or aim your spirit slashes/helm breakers right.
Also you can use iai stance to change direction, so maybe use that to face what you need to hit then do the iai slash into helmbreaker.
Anybody know of an armour thats ez (lol) 2 git? No time to farm. I'm sick of killing tiggy and naruga w/ the same geralt armour. Btw, the character models are ugly as shit. Lazy devs.
I did the whole game from Banbaro to Guiding Lands in the Banbaro set. Just upgraded the defense each time it unlocked, and upgraded my weapon when possible.
I did run tanky though, 7 points of defense boost, 3 points of vitality, 3 points of whatever elemental resistance I needed, rocksteady/temporal, etc.
i'm still using 1 piece guild cross and 4 piece drachen or 3 piece teostra, 1 piece drachen, and 1 piece guild cross depending on what i'm fighting. 3 health boost and 3 divine blessing or 3 health boost, fortify, and 3 of a certain resistance is more than enough to beat everything i've fought so far. maxed blast resist vs brachydios, for example, makes it almost a joke to fight. defense doesn't seem to matter at all as long as you have health boost
