Getting back into PC in prep for Iceborne release. Is this Defender shit the best thing for the moment?

The weapons are almost all the best pre-iceborne weapons, but I think some other elemental stuff is better for sword and shield, dual blades, and bows? The Defender armor looked like a good starting point, but I think there is a lot of higher stuff that is better.

From what I've seen if it's a raw weapon it's hands down the best. Dual blades though for example defender has less attack than Zirael.

Like FFXI crafting, there is a total cap spread of points you can have, and once you hit it, leveling something causes other levels to drop. Functionally, you can have half the zones at max.

i forget if it's at level 3 or 4 before you start effecting other areas levels but yeah you can freely level them all up a bit

You don't really want to do that anyways. The higher level an area, the more monsters that can show up. L6 opens up an area's tempered monsters, elders, and zone specific monster. Level 7 brings in the tempered elders, and tempered zone specific monsters, but as mentioned, is a ways off. Whatever you decide to leave un-leveled is usually better hunted via joining a session that has what you need, but I'm currently rotating so I pick up at least one of everything, just for completion's sake. If you just want to focus on elders, then it's a spread of Recess, Higlands, and either Forrest/Rotten Veil.

Also, the only way to get investigations, for the zone specific monster, is to encounter them in GL or an event/MR Optional quest first.
