For some weps (raw-focused) there are very clear winners yes. Divine Slasher and virtually all the Diablos lines are like S tier, with Jho, Vaal, and Nerg all having their niches generally. That said I like the elemental and status options for the lighter weapons, and the (insane but) logical extension of that was ALL THE THINGS.

I progressed with jyura and kadachi weapons.
I use decimation claws (vaal), fire & ice (teostra/kirin), and monarch (nerg/kushala) on the varying tempered elders.
And diablos clubs, chrome slicers, dark ripper, arcanaria, and the bazelhawk rookslayer all technically have a use for shits and giggles.

That's essentially 10 out of the 21 weapons that i made are useful at all, and honestly, i really only use 3 for end game lol

I used Pukei IG for like forever, then Nerg once I got it. Then I went on a weapons world tour though I'd say my main is Nerg HBG.

Damn, I thought the events started tomorrow, forgot weekly events start Thursday and limited bounties on Friday. Managed to find a great group of hunters for SoS Deviljho at least before the weekend flood. As for weapons, I usually stick with whatever I have augment stones for. The game drowned me in axe stones early on, so now I focus on charge blade. Hopefully Deviljho is kind to let me try something else.

So now that all the events are back which ones should I do? I am not sure which ones give special rewards that are worth while. Couldn't find much help searching around online.

I wasn't sure if I could but I attempted regular Deviljo and was able to pull it off. It was tough but I did it first try and only got carted once. What do people think of his weapons and armor? Worth getting? The weapon seems good except for the minus affinity.

Comprehensive list of the events and what they give: https://28gameslater.blogspot.com/20...om-events.html

Did the SF Arena quest, and I fucking hate that I have to do it 5 more times for the armor. The weapon sets are just ass, and the HBG is slow and has no shield mod, which means you cant fucking dodge him most of the time; might as well be an LBG instead.

That said, I sniped my Spread Jewel, so I'm down to Pierce, Guard+, and a Special Ammo to round out what I run with in varying gear sets for HBG. Nothing for the next 30+ quests either, so I don't have to worry for a long while and can do events in peace, since I'm kinda low on spare decorations now.

For a lot of the Jho weapons it's the best raw (if the weapon doesn't have a Diablos or isn't LS) or the best Dragon element. The only ones that really have an asterisk next to them are the bowguns since they're a little unconventional (Spread3 LBG / kaboom HBG).

Considering when Jho unlocks (after Pink Rathian), I'd say he's basically supposed to be on the level of Nergigante but the thing that makes him more difficult is his very erratic head movement and very vertically-high head and tail, especially for bigger variants.

The new rocket GS (from the 5* event with LR Paolumu/Rathalos) is pretty good, might be new optimal GS. Need 5 tickets to make and upgrade it, total.

Aside: the only event quest we do NOT have yet but will be active before event is over (it will start next week at usual event quest reset time) is the one for Megaman palico armor.

Crazy that the GS is so easy to get. I would focus on getting that, stocking up on meal vouchers, and T2/T3 tempered investigations. If your armor is fully augmented or you're confident, farm tempered deviljho for weapon augment stones. The rest of the quests are primarily for cosmetics or achievements.

The limited bounties are also daily instead of weekly and give an armor sphere worth 200 pts as well.

New GS is for sure the best. The sockets being worse then Jagras hurts a bit, but the higher raw more then makes up for it, to say nothing of how much better it looks.

Really happy it ended up being rarity 7 so you can get affinity and healing augment.

The only instance where I could see you not using it is for a monster with 3* weakness to lightning, where you'd use Kirin GS instead if you wanted to be totally optimal. But without seeing the numbers the rocket GS might still be better.

Trying my hand at Wide-range5 / Mushroomancer1 / Speed Eating 3 / Free Meal SnS build, it's quite fun in SOS stuff. Using Girros weapon so I get a para or two per monster and get to patch people up with my choice of healing items. Had a pretty beautiful Tempered Jho where a Hornbro was also using wide-range. Had heals for days. Sadly Jho doesn't give a fuck about your heals if he just chomps you in one hit.

Speed Eating 3 lets you drink pots and eat steaks in one gulp/bite, and while the HoT part of the potions ticks at normal rate to others via Wide-range you can be up and moving earlier. It's really convenient. It's probably a little redundant with Blue Mushrooms though as those are basically just 1-bite potions.

I primarily use LS so can you elaborate on the caveat that you put in about long sword?

Gonna assume it's simply because Divine Slasher is that goddamn good.

Along with like, Diablos CB I think it's the only weapon that has a clear 100% best in all situations for it's class.

What makes divine slasher so good? It has ok damage but its element is hidden. It has 0 affinity which I guess is good but isn't it easier to counter act negative affinity than to waste a slot for free element to get the dragon damage? Or is it the 20 defense on it that makes it good or the sharpness?

    Elementless Decoration.

Tis why almost all of the best weapons (except for stuff like DB and SnS) are the Diablos or other pure raw weapons. One 2 slot gem for a straight 10% damage boost is just OP as shit

That makes sense thank you for explaining it to me. I am still trying to understand the relationship between sharpness, raw attack/damage, and elemental damage, as well as other skills that augment those. It seems though that generally raw damage and straight damage boost are better than elemental and sharpness/handicraft. I guess I better start farming the arena. Ugh I hate the arena.

Depends on the weapon. Unlike raw critical damage, that has a base modifier of x1.25 across the board, critical element has different multipliers for different weapons

    Greatsword is x1.2
Long Sword, Hammer, Hunting Horn, Lance, Gunlance, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, Insect Glaive is x1.25
Sword & Shield, Dual Blades, Light Bowgun, Heavy Bowgun, Bow is x1.35

And unlike raw damage, elemental damage does the same amount of damage regardless of it's motion value. High motion weapons and attacks, like SnS and DB, instantly have their damage lowered per hit by a multiplier of x0.15-x0.25 depending on the attack being used. That isn't the case with elemental damage. 250 thunder element on a weapon is 25 thunder damage every single hit. Doesn't matter if it's a high motion attack or not. The only factor is the body part of the monster you're hitting.

Essentially what Krandor said is the way to go. Unless you're using a SnS or DB, go for raw damage.

Elemental bows are also pretty good, and there's a niche for elem LBGs. But otherwise yeah, elements are basically just inferior to highest raw Elementless option, although Jho weapons usually come pretty close due to stupid-high raw despite the Dragon element. Diablos for weapons that have it (Hammer SA CB IG; DB is better with element, HBG is a bit niche but still raw city, Bow is best raw option for those who don't wanna build elements).

For other melee weps' raw options there's basically
GS: Jagras and Jho were pretty even, though the new rocket sword might eclipse both.
LS: Divine Slasher (arena) invalidates everything else
    Lance: Jho
Gunlance: Jho for raw, Zorah for Long4 shelling (charged shells), Rathian for Normal4 shelling (burst)
Horn: Jho for generalist (same songs as Ore/Dodogama; Atk/Def/Health/Wind pressure), Nerg or Jyura for L/S earplugs
SNS: Barroth is what I see thrown around for best raw, but there's a lot of status and elemental options here.

For SnS Teo, Nergi (duh), and Grand Barong II (bone path) are all top notch.

Straight raw isn't great on SnS, same with DB. Those are the two weapons (also bow to a degree, tho Cera Coilbender is so fucking good it's not vital) primarily where it's better to focus on elements then on sheer raw.
