yeah, HR is different than LR. you need to farm mobs that aren't assigned. you're next mission is going to be a huge upgrade in monster. if you don't farm some mobs that aren't assigned you literally won't be able to damage it. your sword will just bounce off

Yeah I know to go for blue or higher sharpness that's why I farmed the kadachi fang 1 and jagras hacker.

You'll need white sharpness eventually for some HR stuff, but most of that is 8*+ iirc.

    You never "need" white sharpness.

Otherwise the Nergi weapons would all be useless.

Technically you never "need" blue either then.

I wouldn't say that, blue sharpness means most of your attacks land and you get a decent attack bonus, green is where a lot of attacks start to bounce and damage is meh.

White is extra and nice to have, but it's mostly for weapons that eat sharpness so you don't have to whetstone all the damn time.

Blue is always the cutoff point where the math turns against you.

Sharpness multipliers between purple/white/blue aren't too dramatic, but once you hit green the numbers get pretty bad.

Oh snap that Para SA. Not having to use Free Element in comparison to the OG + Crit Element? Hot diggity damn.

Numbers are a little lower but so worth it.

yeah all the elemental weapons are amazing for DB. my only gripe would be that when you augment them with health regen they'll be a little lower on affinity than the current elemental weapons I use (jyura/kadachi/legiana/lavasioth/deviljho) and have all fully augmented with 10-15% affinity and health regen on top. but not having to use rath gear is a huge boost. full drachen, maybe with kulve boots y for heat guard vs teo/luna, with crit element will be hot

You don't need blue to kill anything really. In fact, you can run mind's eye and blunt and be just fine, just like in every previous title. Sure, you'll do a bit less damage and things will take a little longer, but it works. Saying that you absolutely need blue but not white is misleading, because despite the modifiers from green to blue being higher than blue to white, they do the exact same thing, increase damage and help prevent bouncing. That's it. Fuck, Akantor green weapon builds were pretty baller back in the day, and none of the mechanics have changed since then, there's just not an equivalent currently in the game with green max and high enough raw.

Saying you don't need blue is like saying you can get by on Bow with just close range coatings. Sure you can, but why the fuck are you gimping yourself so much? White sharpness is a resource hog and you generally have to want to get it, blue sharpness isn't that.

Blue is the sweet sharpness spot for basically any class with sharpness, and I say this as a Gunlance user who's gone down to red without really caring. But at that point it just takes longer for absolutely no benefit and I definitely wouldn't use a weapon with lots of green vs lots of blue.

I mean it entirely depends on the weapon.

Diablos/Kulve Horn weapons can both reach white, but you severely limit your build options since it takes a full 5 points.

Whereas stuff like Wyvern Ignition or Divine Slasher only takes like 3 points of Handicraft to reach an optimal level of White (where you generally won't drop to blue before the monster transitions to a new zone), which still leaves a lot of options available to optimize the build. Same applies with the Luna/Xeno weapons, where 2 to 3 points (depending on weapon type) is all you need.

And then there's weapons where you don't give a shit, like Gunlance. As long as you're green or above and getting full value from your shells, it doesn't matter what your sharpness is.

when you first fight pink rathian, you will not have mind's eye. and if you're like me using dual blades, unless you have blue sharpness, you will be fighting pink rath for 2 hours before it dies. don't make this conversation complicated. get blue sharpness and tell other people to get blue sharpness

Great sword is so satisfying but I can't time it for the life of me lol. Might have to give hammer another go, was trialing against Tobi in arena and he's too quick. I'm up to pink rath but I don't want to go until I've farmed up a bit more.

Give greatsword a try again you can get some focus gear. It helps the weapon immensely.

Also generally speaking you really need to know a monsters patterns and tells to get value out of GS. It's not a good weapon for fights you're unfamiliar with. But once you fully understand a fight GS will generally kill a monster faster then any other weapon.

honestly all melee weapons in general you need to start getting the habits and patterns down for mobs. especially once you start hr and the move up to tempered later
