Cosmetic is cosmetic, I don't care if those are 100 bucks a pop, if they don't give a game advantage I think they should be able to price them however high they think people will pay for them.

Agreed. The second it makes someone's character better, then its game over.
Yes but at the same time, this is a $60 game following Fortnite’s cosmetic skin pricing model ($20 roughly for a skin as well). But Fortnite is a 100% free to play game, free to download, etc. EA’s scummy garbage business model thinks they can get away with charging $60 for a game, then $20 for a skin lol.
Expecting a Jim Sterling video within the next three days.
They don't "think" they can get away with it, they know they can. It probably cost them next to nothing to create a skin and make it available, so it only takes a small amount of purchasers for them to profit. Every single EA shareholder wants them to maximize profits. The second their data suggests that offering $20 skins will lose them money (either less purchasers than implementation requires or enough purchasers completely turned away from the game, due to it being made available) then they will stop.
Pretty much this, You can't blame a company for trying to max profits when that is the point of a company. At least the consumers have shown that Pay-to-Win doesn't do that in the long term, as that is a non-starter for most. Hard to be mad at a company for selling some cosmetic items, when they only reason they do it is that people will buy it. No different than selling a shirt for 100 bucks because you put a logo on it. If people are dumb enough to buy it... fuck'em, doesn't mean you need to buy the same shirt.
I see a lot of people say that it's a $60 game but that doesn't really work for me. You get the game and future content updates ("game as a service") for that $60. Cosmetic shop sales furrher subsidize this. Paying a team to continue to develop the game isn't free, and we aren't paying a sub fee to play this game, potential future DLC notwithstanding.
I really hate to defend big corps especially EA, but people expecting things like all armor sets for free (which btw it remains to be seen how long it actually takes to farm 40k ingame gold) or for $5 are a bit ridiculous. There needs to be a feedback loop somewhere, and when it comes to shit like this $20 is a drop in the bucket. You've got people spending hundreds of dollars on pixel titties in mobile games every fucking week ffs.
In an ideal world everything WOULD be free. But good feelings don't pay wages.
In the demo, there is a chance of getting 10 coins from public events in freeplay. But, all cosmetics in the demo are 25 coins, too.
Yeah exactly, I dunno how much stock we can place in the demo's payouts rn,especially since higher quests could give more, there could be daily/weekly bonuses, etc. A lot about our playable demo doesn't even match what the press had their hands on at recent show floor events (I e. We haven't even played the retail build yet). There's apparently a pretty big difference between the two in terms of how the game performs and plays, so right now I'm just hoping we get that this weekend.
In the end though I'm trying this before buying it anyway thru Access, and I suggest anyone else who has negative feelings, whether it be for gameplay concerns, monetization, or whatever else, does the same.
The demo version is a six-week old build, but I guess the server issues weren't present during internal tests. Another excuse Bioware has made for the problems was that while server capacity will prepared for, they weren't ready for the volume of people logging in at once.
I'm going trying to say this is going to ruin the gameplay of the game, I respect its cosmetic and I respect theres no Lootboxes, buts already receiving backlash online already and EA has 0 credibility or good will to spend at this point. These companies do not need these kind of egregiously prices cosmetic items to survive, I promise you 1 month of their profits would fund this games development cycle for a year not including the sale price of 60$ and Season passes and whatever other stuff you know is coming. But its a monster for profits and Investors want more so they're necessary in that the Industry is digging its own grave with it :D
I do understand its purely business and its just how the industry is today, they'll make as much money as they can get away with, I'm not ignorant of that... I also believe everyone is right when they say people will still buy it and they'll make money hand over fist of course. But I don't have to like it, and I don't buy for a second any of this is needed.
Side note: Yes, I'm aware we know very little of how easy it'll be to unlock F2P and that these prices may change(PRTalk), honestly I think this game life depends on how easy and as I said I'm not writing the game off but I'm certainly not pre-ordering it.
You're clueless, if you don't realize why they do it. If EA stops offering micro-transactions tomorrow, and it lowers their revenue, why in the hell would I not pull my money out of EA and invest it whoever Competitor A is that is offering micro-transactions and making me more money off my investment? There would be a waterfall impact, from the people who matter to them.
They are never, ever leaving, until countries make it illegal.
