2017 NHL Offseason Thread - Phil Kessel Signed a Baby

[Bombur]

Lack was a pretty good goaltender up until the Canes' goaltending coach got his hands on him and screwed up his style. If he can get back to playing with his strengths instead of against them, he can be a more than serviceable backup, perhaps even more.

[Vaspinne]

Carolina retain half his salary is great. Keegan Kanzig is like, bottom of the bottom of our defensive prospect depth chart. The draft picks being swapped are negligible. And from what I'm hearing about Ryan Murphy he's apparently a bit of a reclamation project. That being said, he's played quite a few games in the NHL already, compared to Kanzig who spent the bulk of the season last year in the ECHL. Surprising trade that I'm very very happy with. And with Lack with 1 year left on his current contract, gives our goalie prospects that one more year to prepare themselves to make that leap to the NHL.

Edit: My buddy at work told me about the trade. He was like "Calgary gave up some defensive prospect, started with a K" and I nearly shit my pants. I was like "WHAT IT KYLINGTON OR KULAK??!?!?!" and it ended up being Keegan fucking Kanzig lmao. So happy.

[Vaspinne]

That being said, I dunno how confident I am in having Smith/Lack as our goalie tandem. It'll be an... interesting season to say the least.

What the fuck is carolina doin?!?

Not rhat eddie lack is all that great, but damn

[Obsidian]

I think that trade is a direct result of the coach thinking about his own job and nothing else. Eddie Lack wasn't the reason the Canes missed the playoffs.

Cammallerie will be Buy out

[Vaspinne]

Calgary putting Bouma and Ryan Murphy (who we picked up in the trade yesterday) on waivers with the intent to buy em out. I assume Murphy was in the trade purely for the purpose of helping Carolina shed a contract which would explain why they kept so much of Lack's salary.

Bouma was great a couple years ago but has been really injury prone of late and his production (which was already low) just got lower and lower. So makes sense

Granted, with this, Bruins now have nothing left from the Seguin trade.

Goodbye Ennis, you will not be missed.

Hope Minnesota enjoys having Charlie "Spazzway" Conway on their team.

You're the new Dallas.

[Vaspinne]

You're the new Dallas.

Goaltending wise it definitely looks that way. I'm stoked on our defense.

Edit: at least unlike Dallas, we haven't given our current goalies really shitty contracts and both expire either this year or next
