I don't think that any of the proposed gun regulation would do much to dent gun violence, suicides, or even mass shootings.

In response to someone asking if it would help with mass shootings...

Maybe I'm just weird but I think suicide should be legal and regulated in more than just 5 states and then only with 6 months left on your life

    dude, lmao

did you just rebut the point I was trying to illustrate (age old correlation =/= causation) with
Yeah no shit, that's why I said
There's a pretty clear correlation between gun deaths and gun restrictions.
yeah well, there's a pretty neat correlation with violence and skin color and I know you don't fall for that so easily

your dinky little chart has more degrees of separation between the data it took and the conclusion you reached than race-realists do with their charts, even

"I don't care about the vast vast vast majority of people killed by guns, I want to limit this argument to very specific sporadic limited data points to grind this gun control discussion into dust"
I should remind you that we've both been banned for being on the side of gun control here. And I'm pretty sure my ideas are more extreme than yours on the matter

And remember when you started plugging that chart to me. You quoted me saying the govt. needs to seize 300m+ guns to have the effect we want.. and "have you seen the chart though" is extremely meh, to me, and was hoping I wouldn't need to go any further than that

But nobody explicitly makes that argument because it's fucking asinine, so they just hint at it by disregarding the data we have or zeroing in on a miniscule percentage of victims to move the goalposts beyond the ability of data to be meaningful.

If you make having/obtaining guns a pain in the ass, then they are not as "around". Easy access to lethal means is important for those who wish to murder or suicide.

If you think that putting the most restrictive gun control state's legislation on the entire nation wouldn't make a meaningful difference in gun violence or gun suicide rates, you're free to believe that.

I just don't really think you believe that.

Well that would loop me back to asking if the implementation of all of those things would have stopped a single mass shooter, but in the wake of a mass shooting you have no desire to talk about the arbitrary goal post of mass shooting statistics.

Check out what the Republicans are doing with Abortion and Planned Parenthood for a great example.

    oh no, I believe that

the flux of guns coming into the market is minuscule with the amount already out there in mainland USA

it would make, relatively, a 0 amount of difference (if I'm assuming correctly about the 'difficulty' of getting a gun as a criminal atm and how much more difficult it would be even with the strictest of restrictions&regulation) in your standard gun violence, armed robbery, etc etc

maybe it'll have an effect on mass shooters. It's really hard for me to be sure because there are so few of them relative to other data points and each one is their own breed of crazy, making it difficult to predict. But... even then, I think the 350 million+ guns out and about in the USA now will prove itself stubborn to what you personally would expect to happen. And every year that we produce several million more guns your ideas of restrictions become less and less valuable (by a small amount, but still - something to consider if a soft-handed approach will meet X restrictions/regulations in 20 years or something, especially considering that once this stuff is on the table gun production/sales will sky rocket )

I've been waiting a month to get the permit for the handgun I've already paid for but can't pick up and my paperwork was on top of the pile since I'm a township employee. NJ sucks. I had to pay $20 twice for two background checks for the same gun.

That sounds awesome, we should do this everywhere

just bury gun owners in petty bureaucratic bullshit
