Honestly, with the firepower he had I'm surprised he didn't try to take out the SWAT team

ABC reporting that he had a modified bump stock rifle that could be fired in auto. All, or at least most, of the guns were purchased at a store that only sold semi-auto.
So is this the deadliest mass shooting in American history now? This just makes me sick.
media outlets most everywhere have a throbbing horse-cock boner they can (selectively) tout DEADLIEST!!1
*grumble* ain't got shit on the Bataclan or Norway..
I know I've made this argument previously, but here we are again.
If society doesn't take meaningful steps to address the causes of events like this, it is because find them acceptable as the collateral damage of the current system.
Protip: We're not going to take meaningful action.
Pro-er pro-tip: Everyone knows this already.
Proest pro-tip: to the idiots talking about how suicide and murder rates are totally different and yada yada etc. shut the fuck up this was a suicide
How delicious and spicy are the memes gonna be when the Republicans who spent 8 years convincing us that Obama was gonna take our guns find out that Trump is about to pass some of the harshest anti gun laws in the wake of this?
BTW I'm not saying that Trump is actually gonna try that I'm just wondering what if.
Was suicide not always this guy's plan?
Was it more a murder or suicide?
I'd say it was 59 murders give or take and 1 suicide.
I would say 0 murders if he wasn't planning to commit suicide
Murder is murder, suicide is suicide, when the two meet in a single event is a relative rarity. To reiterate, killing another is murder, killing yourself is suicide. These are very important differences and I dare say there would not be near as much push for stricter gun regulation if all gun deaths were suicide with 0% being used in homicide related scenarios. Gun violence is already significant I don't think that including suicide into it does anything to help the conversation on legitimate instances of gun violence towards the innocent such as this case. While harassing gun buyers with regulation would most likely impede gun deaths a noticeable degree it would do nothing to stop mass shootings which was my initial question towards archi pages ago when I asked if anything short of a gun ban would stop these scenarios. Regardless of it's futility in this specific case I am still all for the most strict of background checks and enforcement of such laws.
Okay, but this was suicide-by-cop-by-"murdering a bunch of people and being a pussy"
So this suicide took 51 lives
Don't be a sanctimonious cockwaffle about the suicide numbers. You're smart enough to acknowledge how suicides skew those metrics while still decrying the horrific reality that stands before us. You are however correct in that no one wants to address the root causes because they are deep and difficult to correct. Most people aren't living meaningful lives and over time that leads to people breaking which results in tragedies like what we see before us now. Our society has been constructing this model for how any given schmuck is supposed to live out their life for so long that it's unfathomable how we might even begin to change anything within this towering monolith. People need fulfillment that they aren't getting, physically, mentally and spiritually. The human spirit is resilient but it is not invincible. Over time the drudgery of modern life can and will break a subset of the population which will manifest in a variety of different ways, some of which will be catastrophically harmful to the population at large. These manifestations will garner attention, but the root causes and the less overtly harmful manifestations will continue to go unnoticed and thus the root causes will remain unaddressed and the cycle will continue until the next crisis at which point the cycle of moral outrage repeats itself but ultimately nothing is actually accomplished.
Some are speculating that he used a "trigger crank" - I wasn't familiar with this technology.
Basically straps on to a semi-auto rifle and allows for full-auto speed firing.
