Buy whatever you want, do what you want with it, but when someone starts buying 20+ weapons and hundreds of rounds the ATF will know about it and send someone to see if there's a reason they should know about.

The decent counter argument is that the US is only in this state because we are in a uniquely terrible position given our gun culture.

This is one of those cases where I'd say the sheer size of the country works against us, too.

But I'm not a gun nut and am willing to entertain the possibility the founders might've thought about the 2nd amendment differently if they knew just how much weaponry would evolve.

The size of our country combined with our hard-on for guns and lack of proper mental healthcare. The US nets about 1.6M new people a year, and if you take out gun deaths by suicide the leftover 11,000-15,000 people is a drop in the god damn bucket when you consider how inundated with guns we are on top of how aggressive of a culture America has as a whole.

When compared to other things like the million of people affected by the opioid epidemic, it's completely disingenuous to call guns a public health crisis like the Democrats have been doing for years.

I agree that there's no reason not to have a universal registry at this point. I understand collecting, but there's little reason for someone to have an unbridled arsenal without at least answering a few questions. Things like bump stocks and trigger switches shouldn't be legal workarounds that laugh in the face of legislation that helps prevent the ownership of full auto weaponry either. It's like, fine, you want to own a carbine. There's no actual good reason why a civilian needs full auto availability.
