i'd rather have fairly nonrestrictive gun laws now rather than hope the government feels inclined to repeal legislation when shit does hit the fan. war and (sometimes senseless) murder are too much a part of humanity's history not to be pessimistic.

You all laugh at the folks saying that civil war #2 is going to happen if they try to come for people's guns but a lot of otherwise rational/intelligent people that I know go full "la revolution" mode whenever someone brings up the government taking their guns.

Highly doubt that tighter gun control laws are going to get pushed through with how much opposition stands in the way. If Sandy Hook from years back didn't do it then nothing will.
