In response to the FL school shooting, the Minneapolis, MN school district will add Specialized glass (to slow down a shooter), Panic buzzers, Electronic locks, and high-tech cameras over the next 4 years and at the cost of $133M.
There has also been shooting threats made at 3 schools in the Twin Cites area since Parkland. One of which has lead to a terroristic threat charge to a kid under the age of 16.

Woman rams an SUV into a White House security barrier. No shots fired, and she's been apprehended.

This same woman has tried to breach the White House grounds 2 previous times.
The sherriff was on Jake Tappers show this morning. Didn't go well. Tapper asks what they could have done differently... his response?
"If ifs and buts were candies and nuts OJ simpson would still be on the record books"
Ill find video in a second.
Yeah it's pretty bad. I don't see the point in attacking the sheriff though, from the beginning he did the right thing and suspended the cop prior to him resigning, is investigating the reports of other deputies not running in either. Like I get it, 99% of the time BSO does a good job, but they really dropped the ball here and he has a hard time saying that. I do want an investigation into what went wrong and what can be done better in the future, but idk if he has to resign for that to happen. It's hard to blame him when Parkland is consistently rated one of the safest cities in America, sometimes THE safest city. This one attack was an outlier to an otherwise wonderful force.
As a resident of the town however, and someone who worked in favorite restaurant for some local BSO officers, my anecdote is Parkland is the city BSO officers go to get paid to retire. The old, out of shape cops are always in town, hanging about. They do their job when needed of course, but they are a far cry from Coral Springs Police Department. My one personal anecdote is of one officer who used to frequent the restaurant at night just prior to his shift starting, came in one night for his usual and said it's the last time he would be coming by because he's transfering. The other server and I asked him why, Parkland is so quiet and easy, and he said that's exactly why. He's not young, but he's not crippled either, but working in Parkland was just too dull and nothing happened and he noticed himself not doing well because of it. He left it at that, and I never gave the exchange any thought until these stories started coming out, but I wouldn't be surprised if an investigation turned up that Parkland BSO aren't the best of the best that you would expect from your local PD.
from the brief blurbs I've seen the coral springs PD seems like they are on point, obviously you live there so you would know way better than I. I dont think they were too happy with BSO officers not going in.
the folks I see upset at the sheriff are pretty annoyed he went on CNN town hall and bashed NRA/Dana and failed to mention his dude didn't even go in, not exactly taking responsibility
just compounded with the 40+? times they were alerted about this kid, including the shooter himself... idk man just balls dropped all over the place on this one.
Yeah, the biggest question as a resident that I want answered is why wasn't this kid baker acted? I'm not saying he should have been, I'm honestly lost as to when it should and shouldn't be used, but if they didn't then I want to logic as to why he wasn't. I voted for this guy for no reason other then the city is always safe, I never have any troublesome interactions with BSO, and by and large I can't complain about police in this town, and I'd do it again if he could give me a legit answer to that. He hasn't thus far though, which is concerning.
I'm pretty sure we're going to find out they went easy on Cruz cause of his parental situation, and considering he had weapons locked up, etc. He also had a new family take him in and he was getting his education, working a job, by all means he seemed to be doing good for himself. As far as anyone was aware prior to the shooting, only the father of the household had the key to the gun safe. If the FBI had told them about his internet comments this might have all been different, but again I'll wait for more investigations before I commit to one side or another.
Or it could be that the FBI doesn't even take the threat of domestic right winged terrorism seriously enough.
In any case I support the actions of the officer on duty. Chances are he would've either a.) Got himself killed b.) Killed another student mistaking them for the murderer or c.) Both a and b.
its literally his job to go in, idk how you can support his actions, i can empathize with freezing up but he really fucked up
