I don't think Trump is going to run anywhere.

Listening to a broadcast on NPR speaking with someone from the National Association of Resource Officers, the policy for the resource officer in the case of an active shooting situation at a school would be to go in and try to neutralize the threat even without backup. The resource officer in the case of Parkland is pushing back against the narrative that he didn't go in and was negligent. Apparently he thought the shooter was outside and heard someone was shot at the football field so he went to investigate where he eventually met up with an officer from Coral Springs PD.

Yeah, this is gonna be a clusterfuck cause the schools grounds are so open that it'd be pretty easy to say "i didn't run in cause I thought he had moved outside based on the sounds", and he might not even be lying cause right next to that building is a large parking lot and their track/football field.

They already lost control of the narrative but it's still plausible. Him resigning over being investigated speaks volumes, but you can see his defense starting to form especially when you see a map of the school.

In response to the FL school shooting, the Minneapolis, MN school district will add Specialized glass (to slow down a shooter), Panic buzzers, Electronic locks, and high-tech cameras over the next 4 years and at the cost of $133M.

There has also been shooting threats made at 3 schools in the Twin Cites area since Parkland. One of which has lead to a terroristic threat charge to a kid under the age of 16.

Kid who got charged with threatening to shoot a school is revealed to have autism and owned no guns. A gofundme has reached $25k to help cover legal expenses and daily family needs over the course of this case.

He resigned because he knew he fucked up. Whether his story seems plausible after a week's time to think it up is kind of irrelevant.

Legally, from a policy enforcement standpoint, is what I'm saying. Society gave up on this guy it seems.

Kids died on his watch. Regardless of what he might’ve could’ve should’ve done, there’s no coming back from that. He might have had the wherewithal to see the incoming shitstorm and just said, “I don’t have the stomach for this fight. Fuck it, I’m out.”

Once again you act like he could've figured the situation out and engaged on his own when back in Dallas we thought there were multiple gun men (There was one) and when of tried to sneak up he was ruthlessly gunned down.

tl;dr stop blaming the cop for the killers actions.

he's only blamed for his own inaction, which is simultaneously fair and a bit harsh

resignation was the obvious right call though

I'd be shocked if it's one officer enter. Our county changed to wait for a second before entering after we had one enter an Outback Steakhouse that was being robbed and was immediately overpowered and taken hostage and when the second then followed in a few minutes later, got ambushed and executed. After that I always assumed that tactics in an active shooter situation is to wait for backup as you don't know how many active shooters are involved in the incident.

Pretty sure the "rules" for active shooter are different than any other situation - wait for backup for robbery or whatever, but for active shooter they're supposed to go in alone.

In American policing, confronting active shooters is divided into two eras: before Columbine, and after Columbine. Before the 1999 shooting at Columbine High School in Colorado, police strategy was to wait for the SWAT team to arrive and then attack en masse with precise force. But after the two shooters in Columbine roamed the school for nearly 50 minutes, killing 13 and wounding 21, the police approach changed: Enter now. Whoever is there with a gun, whether a school resource officer or the first patrol officer to arrive, should go after the shooter.

“We teach that the first priority when you come on scene is to stop the killing,” said Pete Blair, executive director of the Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training Center at Texas State University and one of the nation’s top experts on active shooter training. “The number one driving force is gunfire. If there’s gunfire, we teach the officers to isolate, distract and neutralize. We want people to go directly to the sounds of the gunfire.”

Not sure if all departments follow this guidance though.

For active shooter situations, when I was military police many moons ago we were trained to respond and neutralize immediately. As federal law enforcement, we're trained to not engage until local authorities arrive unless there's an imminent threat to your own life.

Which is hilarious because you're telling trained federal agents to not engage, yet in the same breath wanting to arm clueless teachers to do the opposite.

Uh, no. Trump clearly said only adept teachers with a talent for weapons would be allowed to carry.

Ya, the 20% of teachers that are more competent with firearms than federal agents.

Oh yeah. I'm sure the 4 hour class they'll create in all this will provide them with the tools and tactics they'll need to Jason Bourne the situation.
