A giant explosion rocked Somalia's capital Saturday morning, killing at least 79 people.
The blast, caused by a vehicle packed with bombs, appeared to target the morning rush hour at a busy tax collection center located near one of two checkpoints that control all entry and exit from the city. Although no group has yet claimed the attack, the al-Qaeda-affiliated Islamist militia al-Shabab has regularly attacked government institutions around the country.
It is annoyingly counter narrative that all the recent anti-Semitic attackers in NY that I have bothered to Google have been African American.
This is fun reading.

Al-Shabab (African sect of al-Qaeda) militants attacked an airbase in Kenya that is shared by U.S. troops & Kenyan Defence Forces. KDF says four militants were killed in the attack, but have declined to confirm Kenyan or U.S. casualties. Two U.S. helicopters, two aircraft (one of which is supposedly a spy plane), and numerous vehicles were destroyed.
Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and seeing plumes of black smoke emerge from Camp Simba on Manda Island.
Kenya's military said the insurgents had been driven out of the base, but the US Africa Command said the security situation remained "fluid".
Al-Shabab is linked to al-Qaeda and is headquartered in neighboring Somalia.
Al-Shabab said it had "successfully stormed the heavily fortified military base" before taking "effective control of a part of the base".
The group said the Kenyan military used warplanes to repel the attack.
The Associated Press news agency reported that two aircraft, two US helicopters and multiple vehicles were destroyed at the airstrip.
Al-Shabab said there were "severe casualties on both American and Kenyan troops stationed there", and seven aircraft had been destroyed.
In a statement, the US Africa Command said the airfield was still in the process of being "fully secured".
"Initial reports reflect damage to infrastructure and equipment. An accountability of personnel assessment is under way," the statement added.
It is not yet possible to verify al-Shabab's version of events, but there are unconfirmed reports that one of the aircraft destroyed in the attack is a US plane used for spying in the region.
Not thrilled to hear that. I have a friend on deployment there...
Supposedly three Americans

21 Saudi military cadets have been expelled from the U.S. for having viewed/shared jihadist content and/or child porn.
Some 850 Saudi trainees currently study alongside U.S. military under such programs, but federal officials halted all Saudis training in the U.S. in the wake of the shooting.
Of the 21 Saudis now in the process of being removed from the U.S., investigators found that 17 had shared social media posts that were either jihadist or anti-American in nature, Barr said.
About 15 individuals, had "some kind of contact" with child pornography, Barr noted.
The move by the U.S. was made in consultation with the Saudi government, which agreed that the cadets' links to anti-American content and child pornography was grounds for expulsion.
Barr said federal prosecutors did not find that any of the material unearthed or actions by the 21 Saudi trainees rose to the level of criminal charges in the U.S.
Lol they had kiddie porn but it wasn't "to the level of criminal charges"?
Why do we suck saudi cock so hard as a nation, it's embarrassing.
They have diplomatic immunity or something? Wtf is that

Two injured in a stabbing in London, UK. The suspect was shot dead by police. A third person was injured by flying glass caused by the gunfire from police.
Police said a device was found strapped to the body of the suspect but officers were able to quickly establish it was a "hoax" device.
"The incident was quickly declared as a terrorist incident and we believe it to be Islamist-related," D'Orsi said.

Domestic terrorist organization/Neo-Nazi group "The Base" is being run by someone out of Russia.
Rinaldo Nazzaro, 46, who uses the aliases "Norman Spear" and "Roman Wolf", left New York for St Petersburg less than two years ago.
The Base is a major counter terrorism focus for the FBI.
Seven alleged members were charged this month with various offences, including conspiracy to commit murder.
The group - founded around July 2018 - gains followers online, communicates using encrypted messaging applications, and encourages members to engage in paramilitary training.
Last year Nazzaro was listed as a guest at a Russian government security exhibition in Moscow, which "focused on the demonstration of the results of state policy and achievements".
Records show that, before moving to Russia, Nazzaro ran a company registered in New York that offered access to a "network of security professionals" with expertise in intelligence, counterterrorism, counterinsurgency, and psychological operations.
A website for the firm - Omega Solutions - once stated: "Our associates have worked with various government and military agencies, including multiple wartime deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan".
"Norman Spear" was previously associated with an obscure movement that seeks a "white homeland" in the US Pacific Northwest, which includes the area where "Base Global" purchased land.
