I have mixed feelings about this exit. I completely agree it was necessary but Jesus it seems so poorly executed.

that region just a big sink hole that US government should never think about liberate and build a stable government... even without taliban, civil war will just happen soon after the full withdrawal since all other tribes are wanted to be the one control the country

The whole thing just sucks all around. We should have been literally nation-building while we were there, but since we didn't, we were never going to accomplish shit there. If we weren't going to throw money at solving major issues and winning over hearts and minds, this was always inevitable. And it's all just complete dogshit how it went down. We should have allowed translators to be approved for asylum, and then extended that to literally anyone else willing. Vet them, get them and their family out, and then we can pull out. And honestly that should have started under Obama, once we realized we were never going to truly commit to fixing the country. How this is going down is total shit for everyone, on all sides, except a few defense contractors.

Most of the internet chatter I'm seeing is starting to turn towards Biden - if we pulled out 15 years ago or 15 years from now the result would have been the same. I certainly agree with that, in the sense that we were doing things wrong for 2 decades and wouldn't change strategy even if given another 2.

Afghanistan has little oil, a moderate amount of natural gas, and a fuckton of rare earth elements like gold copper cobalt lithium etc. estimated to be sitting on at least a trillion dollars in untapped mineral deposits. problem is development in country is exceptionally difficult given the nation has been mired in warfare since, literally, 1978.
