The Taliban is offering a hold on hostilities for the return of 7k prisoners. Last year the Afghan government released 5k prisoners and many of those returned to the Taliban to bolster their ranks.
Mission Accomplished
I'm sure he was heartbroken in the 80s too.
Yeah, about quitting cocaine in the 70s.

five provincial capitals fall to the Taliban in the last three days as their offensive continues to sweep the north of the country (where resistance to their rule was traditionally strongest), and there is fighting in a dozen more. several warlords have abandoned the Kabul regime to switch sides. in this observer's estimation barring an act of God the entire country will fall to the Taliban in 2022, possibly the end of the year if the warm weather holds and they get more good months of campaigning.
Taliban is a bit shorter than Afghanistan so sure let's go with it
These Taliban people better watch out, I hear Afghanistan is the graveyard of empires

Taliban up to 10 provincial capitals captured in the past week as U.S. intelligence estimates Kabul itself could fall within 90 days. only question at the moment is if the snows fall soon enough to end the campaigning season as the Afghan forces have hitherto shown neither the ability nor stomach to stand against the Jihadi boys.
report is the Biden administration is shocked as they didn't expect any provincial capital to go down until Fall at the earliest, but there will be no reinsertion of U.S. forces nor any diplomatic outreach to the Taliban. indeed, in a classically American display of callous short-sightedness, even our air support for Afghan ground troops is dwindling and scheduled to cease entirely by the end of the month.
bruh we had 20 years, dont think short sightedness quite fits
Yeah wtf, 20 years training these guys and they lost 10 provinces in a week? Nah fam I'm good they clearly want it more than I or the other afghans do

We were never gonna win there. Shouldn't have been in there in the first place.
mr i'm only down for one generation of warfare
Like xno or anyone who has been there has said, the people we were training just clearly had no interest in actually learning how to be a proper military
if only we had been training the Taliban, they appear to be much better at fighting
Our brand is taking such a hit here...just one week?? Sigh...
