This movie was light-years better than the other Disney "live action" adaptions.

My opinion of the movie is not very positive, unfortunately, and this is coming from a guy who actually didn't hate the Lion King remake.

Witch character is wasted potential, her only purpose in the movie is to tell Mulan "You go girl" then die. The "Bad guy" is a throw away villain whos only purpose is to die in the end, and fuck me worst of all they ruined Mulan herself. Everything that made her likeable, relatable and realistic is gone, even motivations like earning her family Honor, POOF. She doesn't grow stronger through hard work, training, willpower and determination... no, she is now a standard Mary Sue Super Hero who was born special and is never challenged and her only road block to overcome in the entire movie is to stop holding back her super powers. Disney simply CANNOT write a good female lead.

Visuals are nice, CGI isn't bad either, just wish they'd done more with the "new" characters and Villain, and made Mulan a relatable protagonist and not just another Super Hero. Also wish they hadn't sucked the fun out of it but I get thats the style they wanted to make so I can't bitch about that too hard.

Either way, I would absolutely not waste $30 bucks on this. If you really really want to see the movie, wait til its free or at least under $5/Standard rental price. If you want to watch a good Mulan movie with your kids, just watch the original, its just infinitely better.

Good job with those focus tests, Disney. Thinking that power fantasy always works is a foolish bridge to stand on.

Contrary to belief, people do enjoy watching a character struggle to succeed. Not everything has to be chosen-one bullshit. Its kinda hard to identify with someone who was born better than you ever could hope to be, but hey, pander to your focus tested 12-year-olds or whatever. I'm sure it worked out for you.
