Man I wonder what the dispute is.
Man I wonder what the dispute is.
To put it simply, while Israel has controlled the Western part of the city of Jerusalem since Israel's founding,
They basically illegally stole the Eastern half through a war, and then various dubious land annexations since then. The eastern part of the city was conquered by Israel from Jordan in 1967; surrounding areas were annexed to Jerusalem by Israel in the years that followed. In 2015, more than a third of Jerusalem’s residents were Palestinian.
To acknowledge that Jerusalem (a city that has been partially in Israel and partially in Jordan, then partially in the occupied territories) as the capital suggests that the US believes that the entire city is rightfully Israeli (contrary to international law prohibiting land capture in war).

The Palestines in Jerusalem should just call themselves Israeli, problem solved.
I look forward to the new (or re-emerging) Israeli thread
For anyone who is confused, I think this should help:

a decent primer but there is a lot of anti-Israeli bias in there. Israel withdrew both soldiers and settlers from the Gaza Strip in 2005 ending their occupation there + the reason the Israelis took East Jerusalem from Jordan and not Palestine was because Jordan had occupied and annexed the West Bank in 1950; there was never an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank + refusing to call Hamas a terrorist organization + suggesting "the Palestinians" only wanted a multicultural land of all peoples and all religions (a dubious singularity of desire if ever there was one given how divided a people they have been) during the years of British mandate when those years were marked by ethnic riots and religious massacres, etc etc.
Because shit is complicated.

pwning the libs, healing the middle east
Religion of peace.
(Am I doing this right?)
Good thing we don't negotiate with terrorists (anymore)
Why are we even trying to build peace over there anyway? Nobody over there wants a two-state solution. They want a "kill literally all of those other guys" solution.
Gotta make them Jews happy.
