Should probably tell this to Maine Governor Paul LePage too

There's a long-ass line of people at the Durham police station turning themselves in for the crime of tearing down the confederate statue:

This guy is an actual governor?"How can future generations learn if we're going to erase history? That's disgusting," he said. "They should study their history — they don't even know the history of this country and they are trying to take monuments down. Listen, whether we like it or not, this is what our history is."
He continued: "To me, it's just like going to New York City right now and taking down the monument of those who perished in 9/11. It will come to that."
LePage also said he didn't find out about the Charlottesville violence until Tuesday because he doesn't watch TV or read newspapers. The governor, who has a long history of feuding with the media, said he thinks newspapers are "pencil terrorists."
We the Taliban now.
How many statues have yall learned history from?
Wonder how many people protesting Confederate statues being torn down because it erases history were also protesting Texas textbooks changing slaves to immigrant workers.

lepage is legendary in his own special way, though i guess he probably doesn't get much press outside of new england. not too long ago, he was in the papers after publicly lamenting the fact that black drug traffickers travel to maine to impregnate innocent white women.
also if you think that's bad, he's always been like this and is a second term-governor, lol. that owes at least in part to a clusterfuck primary season and a lot of candidates splitting votes in the general the last go around, but yeah.
I've been working on a tweet about how Chelsea Manning should probably pitch Republicans on getting a statue built for her given their love of traitors for like 3 hours now and I just can't quite make it work.
"If GOP love memorializing traitors so much they should erect a statue for Chelsea Manning, but I hear she's done with erections"
The man has a gift, you gotta give him that.
I would change it as follows though, flows better with the closing joke.
"If GOP love memorializing traitors so much they could erect a statue of Chelsea Manning, but I hear she's done with erections"

Ok ok we get it you only hate terrorists if they are muslim you don't have to rub it in
I love how obviously leading these choices are. "Do you like history or are you one of those libruhl snowflakes?"
I'm also loving the argument of the past couple pages that because no single action we can take will end racism, we should take no action at all.
Good work all around.
is this going to be the statue thread or the other one?
since deleted tweet from vice lul

I missed all of that

I guess this is what he's talking about though
In 1941, TIME ran a letter to the editor from a soldier named J. R. McKey who had served with Pershing in the Philippines decades before. In the letter, McKey describes using pigs in burials to deter Muslim insurgent activities, but does not ascribe the act to Pershing.
It's a classic conglomeration of poorly-sourced stuff, attributed to the most famous person in the region at the time, in grandpa email-forward form.
