of course you werent joking. because only your would equate the people who lead the secession against this country to those that founded the country. I imagine protecting monuments to the founders is a hill we'd all be willing to die on. Monuments to the confederacy and get fucked.

I think a large portion of this has to do with how much of a voice the people calling for these things get. You could argue that the rapid escalation of monuments being taken down is entirely the fault of the white nationalists giving a voice to the people originally gathered at Charlottesville.

Roosevelt's monument isn't going to come down until somebody important or at least with major media coverage gives the people campaigning it for it to go down a voice. Then they'll go viral, there will be a demonstration, politicians will latch on to it, and it'll come tumbling down in the dark of night with conveniently missing security presence.

And then we'll move on to the next one.

Point being is the people who start talking about this stuff will escalate it indefinitely. They probably won't get support for it indefinitely, though.

For the record I have no real issue with confederate monuments coming down via proper means. I do take issue with destruction of property. I just wonder where it ends like a lot of people do.
