According to an ESPN executive, who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation, ESPN asked Lee if he would be more comfortable calling another game but gave him the option to stay. Lee chose to switch assignments, and ESPN accommodated him.
The only thing dumber than that is the people trying to defend it
Is there still rioting/rallying/"protesting" going on there? I was given the impression that the groups involved had descended and left back to their caves by now. What's the point in changing anything?
I think it's defensible in context.
Seems to me they came to him like "hey, so, you might get some negative press here. Do you want to switch games?" and he was like "yeah, dude." so they did.
Maybe they would have gotten butthurt and fired him if he wanted to stay on, but that's a baseless assumption.
Shitty reporting here turned this into a story when it isn't a story at all. If my name was Nate Forrest I would probably ask to be reassigned from calling a Memphis football game. Not a popular dude right now.
Was the protest crowd larger than the Trump crowd?

Deadspin has the best take.
Robert Lee is a problem?
"Back to you Bob!"
No more fucking problem.
Oh shit, I missed that. AMAZING footage.
Kick our tear gas back? Here, have another mother fucker!

MAN DOWN
Good Deadspin article, but this was the best excerpt:
LOL.Which is ironic in its way, because this decision is as apolitical as decisions get. ESPN is not liberal, and it’s not conservative; it’s a massive company with no political beliefs beyond damage control.

Guy should have been wearing a cup
Oh wait, Antifa have no balls
If you bring a club like weapon (or in eric clantons case: a bike lock) to a gun fight, youre just stupid.
ESPN couldn't win. You know someone would have complained that it was insensitive that they had an announcer named Robert Lee do a game for Virginia after a the attack.
I guess they thought it was a better look to just change announcers. Too bad there are fucking fake outrage snowflakes everywhere looking to cry about the smallest things.
No one worth worrying about would have complained.
