Yes? I don't expect much from you, Nynja, but you could at least read what you quote.

This is exactly the same kind of thinking that leads people my mom's age to talk about how great stuff was when they were young because they knew their neighbors and could leave their doors unlocked, meanwhile black people were getting hit with hoses and dogs for daring to want equal rights.

Most people are assholes, there are more people than ever before and therefore there are more assholes. The ratio hasn't changed, just the volume.
That's a convenient way to dismiss a logical progression of events.

In FFXI's time, there weren't broadcasting idols reaching millions of people who subsequently emulate them and their discriminatory language/tendencies. If we've already concluded that people copy their memes and mannerisms, which they do, why is it logically incompatible that they also copy their more problematic language?

Times do, in fact, change. Technology evolves. Media evolves. Far more people are reached and influenced into behaving that way than back then, in my experience. Never said FFXI was full of angels.

It's only a logical progression if I accept your premise that gaming communities are more toxic now than they were in the past which, if I haven't made it clear yet, I don't.

You act as though these kids are a blank slate on which evil Twitch streamers are writing the n-word. You have your cause and effect backwards. They seek out streamers who share their attitude because they want to feel validated by participating in a community that is just as shitty as they are.

Completely disagree. Kids aren't adults, and depending how young we're talking here, don't have firm pre-formed political opinions yet.

They find streamers they find amusing or enjoy for one reason or another -- usually as innocuous a reason as trying to improve their gameplay -- and are then subconsciously influenced by their vocabulary and antics. And again, you guys are making this about the N-word, which is not exclusively what I'm talking about.

Just like the average, politically unaware person consumes whatever televised media their parents/friends did, and adopts many of those viewpoints without ever critically thinking about it, so now do kids passively consume and adopt much of the vocabulary their favorite idols employ.

Except their idols, today, aren't limited by televised moderation, and as such disseminate a lot of harmful ideas and language.

And many Twitch streamers are fine. You're the one creating the ad hominem saying I think streamers are evil. A lot of the super popularized ones, on both Twitch and YT, are pretty toxic though.

    PewDiePie is twenty-fucking-seven years old.

Let's stop talking like they're "kids".

oh I agree. I was referring to his audience, not him, with "kids."

A lot of dumbass adults are equally susceptible to their subliminal influence.

"It's okay to call people who upset you the n-word" is not a political opinion.

For any given game that is popular enough (and PUBG definitely falls into this category), there are any number of streamers to choose from who are probably more skilled than Pewdiepie and don't share his barely concealed racism. Kids could watch any of them, and many do. A certain subset has stuck with Pewdiepie because they LIKE his attitude. If they didn't, that muslim stunt he pulled would've been the end of him.

What if i'm at a bar dancing along to rae sremmurd drunk off my ass and they are playing the unedited version of their songs, am I allowed to in this public setting?

Also I find it to be a weird thing to imbibe so much media that has things in it that I am only allowed to say in privacy while this media is not only out in the public sphere but dominates several sectors of it. Like cool, I can quote chappelle only at home/car, but not allowed to quote him saying nigga at any point in the public sphere according to you. If someone puts on DMX in the club im saying nigga regardless when that shit drops.

Hey, you do you. Just don't act surprised if an angry black guy gets in your face. I've seen it happen a couple times, and it's hilarious.

I don't think a black guy should have any right to be angry in that scenario.

If you're in the club and you can hear anyone singing over the music on the dance floor, the club is probably shit.
