Cant sing along to DMX...dat privilege.
White people in the club start looking around nervously.
I was subbing for a teacher one day, i think it was like 4th grade and I was overhearing the kids' conversations and they were just going on and on about pewdipie and five nights at freddy's garbage. It took me aback at how truly popular these things are with kids and I guess it sort of explains the insane amount of views and how childish those videos are. I am almost certain that the bigger youtubers look at their age demographics and act accordingly to appeal to their audiences much like any entertainer would. To be fair though, if it had something such as youtube in its current state around when I was their age i'd probably be eating that stuff up too.
That's largely my point. You have incredibly young audiences being attracted to these streamers with enormous followings, who lack the maturity and/or intelligence to tone their language to their audience, and the result is millions of pre-teens being exposed to racist, antisemitic, homophobic language and behavior at a formative age by these unfortunately idolized, irresponsible 20-somethings.
How about we stop for a second and talk about how speech and mannerisms in children are significantly more influenced by the mannerisms of their peers and friend groups than whatever streamer they're watching on twitch.
We're talking like before the advent of twitch kids weren't able to pop an R-rated cassette into the VHS-box and see cool-looking macho men yelling curses and slurs as they gun down bad guys.
Nope, it was all because of Twitch, Eternity said so and even went so far to insult me because I challenged that idea.
A lot of people here don't seem to appreciate the difference between this and 24/7 access to live streaming, youtube, social media, etc.
If you think there's no significant difference between VHS tapes and a smart phone when it comes to a child's social and psychological development I'm not sure what to tell you.
This thread got real lame. Can we go back to discuss funny things please?
You quoted me saying it wasn't "all twitch" at all lmao. Can you actually not read?
Anyone who's interacted with or worked around children recently is going to agree with what I'm saying. There's a massive difference in the style and amount of consumption.

It is worth noting how much more accessible everything is.
VHS tapes, if you're lucky, meant you rented something without your parents knowing what it was. And it was one tape. Twitch, youtube, et.al. has hundreds of thousands of videos on demand that you can view at any time.
But non Asian minorities are less likely to have both parents around to do said teaching. Plus have you seen parents these days? Uggg don't know how many of my peers think school is supposed to be the one teaching kids to not be shit heads. Then again half the ones that don't are all about making little thems instead.
Parents have never been reliable sources of, well, parenting. Homes are more broken than ever, and it's more challenging than ever for the layman to police their child's internet usage.
Fuck yes it does.
You guys listen to this if you actually want to know about gaming and streaming
I'm not going to stand up for Pewd by saying he did nothing wrong, I think what he did was dumb... this time.
But at least what he's doing is being an entertainer, online, and is not forced on anyone at all, completely optional.
He's not going around in say... K-8 Schools teaching children his ideology to influence and brainwash them at an early age with his political agenda...,
