well given anti-miscegenation laws were only declared unconstitutional in 1967 and back then the Klan was still blowing up little black girls in churches and 50% of white Americans said they would move if a black family moved in next door, and given every subsequent generation of Americans holds less bigoted views than the one before it, i'd say race relations have been improving p good in the country over time and will continue to do so regardless of PewDiePie's diction.

i mean in 2000 35% of the country disapproved of marriage between blacks and whites and today that number is at a still p bad but much improved 13%. and that 2000 figure in itself represented dramatic progress from 75% of the country disapproving of interracial marriages in 1970.

I don't think anyone here doesn't think they haven't slowly been improving. The problem is that improving doesn't necessarily mean everything is okay. Those with deep biases, to the point of violence, are still more numerous than persons of color could ever be comfortable with.

And then the ridiculous levels which some people believe are necessary spurns on an aggrieved white male victim complex response (aka the Nynja) making it difficult to get completely reasonable things done.

Yes, being tied to screens 24/7 absolutely has an impact on neurological and psychological development in children. However, development of language and mannerisms is still more strongly dependent on the language and mannerisms of a child's peer group than what they happen to be watching on youtube.

Pewdiepie dropping n-bombs doesn't make kids drop n-bombs. The kid sitting next to yours in class dropping n-bombs and everyone around them laughing makes your kid drop n-bombs. The internet is absolutely a forum where this normalizing behavior can happen, which is why it's important for children to interact regularly with friends and peers with a bit of supervision in the real world where they have to watch what they say and exhibit some common decency.

Edit: I guess it is worth noting that it is now possible for children to grow up with peer groups that exist entirely or in large part on the internet. When your peer group is Twitch chat, the mannerisms you're surrounded by are going to be fucking garbage and that's a problem. That's a different can of worms, though. Nothing Pewdiepie does or doesn't do is going to raise the level of discourse on the internet.

Something I have a legitimate concern is the thought that by having these big youtuber/streamer act horribly is that it may draw the attention of some government entity. Like imagine if something like the FCC started regulating the internet more and pointing to these instances as a reason to hammer down on our relative freedom on the internet. What pewdipie did was nothing special compared to the kind of language i hear in my local community of rednecks in my region, but when it gets broadcast nationally to a very young audience I worry that the possible government regulatory actions creeps up ever closer to our precious internet.

I do think that improvements in race relations is a generational thing. Most of us are programmed to inherit political views of our parents. The south only got less racist because we made it taboo. The ones that are still racists are like that because they are taught to be that way.

I think race relations are worse now than they were fifteen years ago. We're moving towards open racial hostilities becoming normalized.

They are worse now than they were last year because Trump emboldens them. But last year was not worse than 14 years ago.
