I won't disagree that current iterations of the tech likely aren't up to par, but I'm not of the mind that'll always be the case.

The more ideal solution would be for America to just get over its murder machine fetish, but we know that's not happening.

Relying on systems that break fundamental rules of science is just stupid and not worth pursuing, just like game DRM the only people it'll effect negatively is legitimate owners. So yes, it'll always be the case that these kinds of systems won't be up to par.

It would literally violate the laws of physics to be able to make a system that wasn't easily circumventable.

Granted there is a good argument that it'll prevent scenarios where a gunman grabs someone else's gun, even a very quick method won't likely be quick enough to grab and shoot, but will do nothing to prevent people from buying a gun and "jailbreaking" it same day.

You’re assuming that every single person that wants to do evil is capable of circumventing any protections we put in place which is a failure of imagination.

Apparently a couple of guys heard the gunman shots, grabbed their guns and went after him, they took shots at the shooter, he fled and they chased him at 90 mph, the shooter crashed and then killed himself.

Hard to say if they prevented more deaths since he was coming out of the church after having shot nearly everyone. Seems like they did manage to shoot him though.

He was denied a license to carry a firearm by the state of Texas and by everything that’s currently known he should not have been able to buy a firearm.
