What are we banning Day for? He's really not that far off base.
Reading that the shooter didn't have a license, but in Texas no license is required for long guns.
Good guys with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun, 2 dozen+ deaths later.
Well it seems like in accordance with laws we already have on the books he would have been prevented from legally being able to buy guns if only they had been enforced. I repeat, current gun laws could have stopped this if only they were enforced, they were not. Two legal gun owners just saved an extra 2 dozen lives, yes you may say that the 2 dozen deaths were a tragedy, would not 2 dozen more be an even worse tragedy?
Yes we should not allow people to buy guns without a background check, yes we should be able to monitor private gun sales, yes we should seek to limit violence. The first 2 are for all intents and purposes impossible, the third may actually be possible. But who cares these arguments always follow 2 paths so let's just post the 2 pics and be done with it.
edit: I am of course running with the assumption from the past few pages that he was a discharge as well as having a DV record and a legal establishment would have refused him if following the rule of law.
Spoiler: show
I would point your attention towards the multiple iterations of the "Enforce Existing Gun Laws Act" that have never successfully been pushed through Congress to do exactly what you're suggesting, because it is a known issue that the laws put in place to keep this from happening are rarely enforced and fraught with simple workarounds.
Of course 4 dozen lives lost would be worse than 2 dozen, and both are worse than no dozens.
The idea that "oh the gun laws didn't work" narrative means something is perplexing.
I agree that they should be enforced and find their hindrances upsetting. I just don't think they will do anything to stop mass killings nor do I even really care about mass shootings statistically speaking. As most of these threads revolve around the eye candy of mass shootings I find it ringing hollow when I see such vehement arguings over them. As opposed to say the constant metropolitan homicides which are mostly illegal weapons acquired through a mix of private transactions and theft and a blight which I can see no easy resolution for, be they enforced background check or not. Yes we can basically shut down all gun shows if we so desired but I do not see how we could ever stop private sales or hell even private creation and selling.
Assuming my edit was after you loaded page. But short answer, none, nor will any ever barring wholesale confiscation and lockdown.
Oh yeah, no
Mass shootings are here to stay fellas.
There are definite ways to shut down the routine homicides that are nothing but statistics in today's world but there is likely nothing currently feasible that could stop mass shootings.
We've hit peak thoughts and prayers.
Part and Parcel
601 homicides in Chicago alone this year.
