Suzuki beats Tanahashi by submission for the IWGP IC Title!

Just casually watched this show after getting up.

Weird card. Very light, maybe seems that way because the IWGP/NEVER/Tag programs are all consolidated. This card was better than an even a Road to Tokyo Dome/Dominion card before the main event, but just felt weird as a "PPV" card. That's the problem with New Beginning and Destruction getting bumped up from 2 shows to 3 lately. The work that people did was very good though.

Big Match Tana is the best storyteller in the fucking world. My goodness. THIS is basically what I was hoping for last year at New Beginning, but I don't know if Okada has that sort of despair level that Tana can tap into. Didn't expect a stoppage until midway through the match, but the winner was obvious since like October. Was only a matter of when they faced off. Fantastic stuff, and basically clean as a fucking whistle as it should have been. (Chair shots outside the ring don't count. This is NJPW!)

I really enjoyed the show. Could've been a little better but overall it breezed right by. I love those Bullet Club jerseys that BC (not Elite) are wearing. I'm probably a minority, but I hope they run the BC breakup program sooner than later and I REALLY hope Tama or Fale take it over.

About the main event...

An absolute clinic by both Suzuki and Tanahashi. The latter showing exactly why he's the ace. I love Minoru getting the W via stoppage though. It's exactly what he needed after Goto and I'm glad it wasn't the Gotch that put Tana away. Side note, stupid Taichi looked like he wanted to be anywhere but with Suzuki-Gun during the celebration.

When he's on, Suzuki's promos are up there with anybody in the world. His stuff last year from New Year Dash to New Beginning was fantastic.

Not sure where they go from here long term. They're scheduled to be facing off again in a tag match in about 9 hours, which could be more about setting up a Suzuki/Elgin match though. If Tanahashi takes off til NJC, then he could come back for Suzuki then at Dontaku (or hold off til Dominion). Or... since Okada's reign could break Tanahashi's record if he successfully defends at Sakura Genesis, maybe it'd be time to fully put an end to that rivalry? I definitely could see a case of Tanahashi celebrating with the trophy, giving a promo, then Okada walking out after like the cocky shithead that he is and say "Come on old man, I'm about to break your record. I dare you to challenge me and try to stop it." As awesome as that sounds, even with that timing, I just struggle seeing a title feud between those two other than Dominion or WK going forward. They're no longer really in the same sphere, so it would truly be a big deal if/when they do face each other outside of just G1s.
