Working my second job at the mall today and nonstop calls asking if we’re open. Wouldn’t be so bad if I didn’t open the call with “Thank you for calling - where we are open until 9pm” and then ask me if we are open.
Wtf did I stutter ? ><

We get something similar daily.

Me: Thanks for calling Kalmado's agency this is Kal how can I help?
Idiot: This isn't Progressive, Allstate, Farmers?

Typically to make the day go by there’s some good eye candy but everyone seems to be recovering so far, double fail.

When I worked at Walgreens in college it was a 24 hour store, so whenever we answered a phone call it was "Thank you for calling your 24 hour Walgreens at (store location), how can I help you?"

People would still ask how late we were open.

yeah a lot of my colleagues open their calls with a request for information, because we need that to do anything, but i just go with "thanks for calling _, my name is Bane. How may I help you?" because half the time people spend 5 minutes telling me about their problem before answering the question anyway, and maybe a fifth of the time it's not something i can do anything about anyway so i gotta transfer. id rather have it over and done with right away.


and then there's all the shit i HAVE to say but no one wants to listen to so i try to get through it as quick as i can, but since people arent listening i end up repeating it all like 4 times anyway.

I don't know how many times I've told people on Monday morning that we are open wed-fri 12-4 and them still ask if we are open. Only for me to repeat it and them ask if we will be open at noon... a shocking number of people don't know what day it is and even after telling them it is Monday so no still ask if we will be open the next time.

Honestly most customers I get are so wrapped up in whatever they want they don't listen to a word I say so it really doesn't matter what I say they continue on with whatever. So I find myself repeating whatever multiple times until they finally get the picture that things aren't progressing till they fucking listen. And people are like you should rephrase things... except that doesn't work because they are completely ignoring anything that they don't care about. Actually had one guy take a good 5 repetitions before he actually listened and you could see the lightbulb go off finally hearing something and then was like I don't know what means. Imagine trying to explain what the words watch or see means in a way that wont make the boss yell at you to a guy that just wasted several minutes of your time by not listening to a word you said... then imagine what I actually said lol

I’m fairly certain I had a few of those today once they got the info they wanted from my pickup spiel. Fine by me , lol. Active listening is a challenge for some and even I’m guilty of doing similar but working in a call center previously I make a conscious effort now to listen before asking dumb questions.

If it is anything similar to my time doing this for DirecTV, it would go something like:

*bitching and ranting and personal insults for a minute or two*
Okay yeah sorry bout that first I need to verify the account number or name
*more bitching, possibly an answer*

Ah yeah the only actual calls I get are people who actually looked us up in the phone book (yes they still exist) as our main number goes to the bosses cellphone and while the phone book one goes to the landline they made us have to put ads in it. Even then our ad itself doesn't contain the number. So they really have try to get that number and well if they actually need anything other than easy info I just tell them to call our real number real fast

ah. yeah for me, i'm having people check connections, sending signals, etc. on a slow day i take ~30 calls a day, so it can be difficult to remember if i had granny power cycle already or if that was auntie three calls ago. so gotta keep track.

Since I passed the bar almost 3 years ago I've been part of a process to become a special agent for the FBI. The time waiting between phases has been as much as 6 months in some cases, and in all that time I've tried not to put down roots or seek more than semi-permanent employment because I'd believed I would be called up to go to training and move afterward. I passed several written exams, the fitness test (the only candidate to pass from my group), a physical, multiple rounds of interviews, a polygraph, and had all of my friends and co-workers from the last 10 years questioned as part of my top secret security clearance background check. I was in training to take the fitness test one more time, as you're required to pass it twice before moving on to Quantico, and that was finally the absolute last step necessary before I would be cleared to move on.

Then at the start of last month I got a notice that as a result of my physical, they wanted me to retake the eye exam. I scheduled a test immediately and sent them the results.

Because of some difficulty when I was born, I have a misshaped cornea. I'll never see better than 20/25, even with correction. Even Lasik would just have me at 20/25 without lenses. Sans correction I'm around 20/40, 20/50. The FBI requires a minimum of 20/20 in at least one eye and no more than 20/40 in the other, after correction. The determination was made that 20/25 isn't good enough and I was just disqualified. They could have had me take the test first, before almost 3 years of processing?

So, time to figure out what to do next.
