Dream job became a nightmare. My boss found out this Monday his work visa hasn't been renewed yet, so he can't legally work starting next week and doesn't know when it'll be renewed. However, if it's not renewed by Feb 21, he can't work for the year and may leave the country. He has been giving me a crash course on how to be a lab supervisor this week while I'm sick as hell and now I can't take any sick days since it'll just be me taking care of everything. I also learned that I don't get overtime pay, so I'll be overworked, sick, no OT, getting the same pay I currently get for doing the job of two people, one of which is a much higher position than me.

I am surrounded by a bunch of deadly chemicals, so worst case, I'll just end myself in a glorious explosion or something.

That is true but most places have laws about some form of compensation in general for just normal stuff like that and even without that salary isn't a license to do whatever you want lol. I'm not too familiar with this but vastly changing the nature and scope of the job should require contract/agreement... assuming the possibility of this happening wasn't already agreed upon.

Haha customer just tried to hustle me. Like pretty much every business ever there are discounted rates and such more greater quantities. She of course interrupted this to mean that the more she brought in the cheaper the total would be. ie 4 would actually cost less than 2 and enough would be 100% free lol.

Not if he's a salaried employee. It's extraordinarily common that salaried people don't get paid for OT.

This. Why do you think McDonalds have such young store and assistant store managers? So they can get them suckered into working Salary then they are making 30k a year to work 60-80 hour work weeks while constantly send hourly people home to cut labor. Luckily I get 7 management days a year for my union contract to make up for the fact I don't get OT, but I'm in the minority compared to non union salary people.

It is indeed state by state. I know Washington used to have some laws about it though never looked into the exactness since the only salary I was getting up there it couldn't apply to. Damn sub minimum wage military life. Think it had something to do with average wages so you couldn't use salary to bypass min wage laws or something

New Jersey. Salaried. Anything over 40hrs is OT @ Time & 1/2. Paid for all sick days and still get overtime if I'm out sick any days that week. 14 holidays paid whether we work them or not, OT rate if we do work them. Triple time if we work overtime on a holiday. And a pension.

What a great Monday. Ride into work and don't see a bunch of black glass till I'm riding over it. Conveniently clearly been swept off the main street into the bike lane. No flats but my tire was riddled with small pieces of glass that took awhile to get out and left me with a bunch of small holes.

Get in and have to deal with this customer that our boss promised we'd do every 2 weeks despite them being the smallest of our customers and we only really go down that far every 4 weeks so on the off one it's a good 30 minutes out of our way from the closest stop. Except we can't necessarily go from our closest stop because even though that's the farthest area from us and therefore about where we would normally start for the day they apparently don't open for us till 10 am and other stops not too awful far can't really all be forced first since some don't open till 9. Try to explain to the boss this is a long term problem and we need to work out something with customer and maybe not make promises we can't reasonably keep and he wants to reroute an entire days worth of stuff and fuck with 20 other much bigger customers. <.<. Yeah fuck with 20 because you can't be firm with 1 seems smart

Oh and apparently about a mile from my house a big truck hauling debris from the recentish fires lost it's brakes coming down the hill and wrecked all kinds of stuff hitting 10 cars and everything is on fire again over there. So traffic is pretty bad
