That last page was something I never thought I'd freakin see in this series. Oda is full of surprises.

The man is never afraid to hype up an antagonist as a serious threat, then show the goods, but also to embarass the hell out of them. Imagine Kishimoto pulling ANY of this when Madara was on screen. I think the closest was when the Harem no Jutsu worked against Kaguya.

Big Mom can flatten a country by her lonesome on a single hungry evening, yet here she is, getting ridden over by a goddamn motorcycle.

It's listed as a 10 episode mini-series, so I'm not sure how far it'll go. Either skim through material and get to somewhere like Enes Lobby/Water 7, or if they go into detail, the Baratie/Hawkeye fight

Not that anime is devoid of stupid trope-y bullshit that'd never actually fly in reality even if not a fantastical setting, but pretty much all live action failures boil down to a mix of bad faith to the sources, not enough budget, and trying to cram dozens of hours of material into 90m or so. Prior to Death Note, Shyamalan's Avatar more or less carried on that tradition in the west with honorable mention to myriad video game adaptions before and after.

How would you get to EL/W7 skipping stuff? You would have to be doing more than an arc an episode, it's like the 15th arc in the series.

They are forced to completely rewrite things no matter what they do. The series is too long to be made into a live tv show.

I wouldn't expect a retelling, they are more likely to combine elements from several arcs into something new. If it's going to be bad they will probably take stuff from too many arcs and from too far apart in the series, not that it will be the only problem.

I have no hope for this being any good. Death Note should have been easy to adapt and they screwed that up. The chances that they nail a cartoony action heavy series down are slim.

I just assumed in the likely case that this being a shitty live-action version, each episode would be like:

Ep1. Luffy sets out and meets Zoro
Ep2. They meet Nami and Usopp
Ep3. Meet Sanji and big epic Mihawk fight
Ep4. Arlong Park episode
Ep5. Combine Loguetown + Whiskey Peak to get the Roger stuff + meet Vivi
Ep6. Drum Island and Chopper
Ep7. Alabasta
Ep8. Water 7 (skipping Sky Island and Foxy) and Robin's betrayal
Ep9. Enies Lobby
Ep10. Saving both Gear 2 and 3 for the big climax finish fight against whatshisface leopard guy plus a quick wrap up

That's if they do a really really shitty, bad live-action version and try to cram a bunch of stuff in while skipping most of the meat of the series

Thinking it over, ideally and hopefully, Arlong Park being the end point makes way more sense if they want to at least try and make this a reasonably okay version. In that case, could see it be like:

Ep1. Sail out and meet Zoro (and Koby and co.)
Ep2. Meet Nami and Buggy
Ep3. Meet Usopp and the Merrygo
Ep4. Sanji + Baratie first half
Ep5. Baratie + Mihawk conclusion
Ep6. through Ep9. would cover the Arlong Park stuff
Ep10. Ending at Loguetown with Roger's legend and One Piece and the introduction of Smoker and the scary Marines + mystery man who saves Luffy (that everyone who reads the manga/watches the anime knows is Dragon) ending on the cliffhanger of the crew sailing towards Reverse Mountain and the ominous Grand Line and overall finishing at the end of the East Blue saga

It would be interesting to see them try to fit one arc into every episode even if it was absolutely awful. It would be like one of those recap episodes were the series is recapped as a terrible stage play. Knowing that this is most likely to be a train wreck it might be the most interesting option. Too expensive to do that though. It would require lots of different sets and fight scenes.

I think if they did Arlong Park it would be something like episode 1 and 2 setting up the story. Probably need to have part of the SH formed at the start, Zoro definitely. Have Ussop or Sanji be part of the SH with the other being recruited in the first two episodes. Nami would help them out but betray them and run away with the ship. Then episodes 3 to 8 being the Arlong Park arc and the series ending with them heading into the Grandline.

I think to keep things consistent and hopefully not Last Air Bender it. Let's have a single episode for each character, no rushing that way. I personally, would like season 1 to end either after kicking the shit out of Arlong, or end right before Dragon saves Luffy. Think of that, the final shot, Luffy smiling, "Sorry, I'm dead". and cut. Anymore than that and they'll just rush and ruin too much of One Piece.

It's hard to guess what to expect. I'm making my guesses on each episode being around an hour long. But if they're 10 30-minute episodes, then yeah, all bets are off.

Are they gonna stick pretty close to the original story and modify minor things to make it more TV friendly? Or are they gonna chop it to bits and only keep really really deep core elements and do their own Netflix Original thing? Is it gonna be dark and gritty and super adult (aka how they plan to butcher A:TLAB) or dumb it down and make it overly kid friendly like the 4Kids dub?

Hard to say, I just assume the worst at this point lol
