Okay, so yeah, you're right about it being stolen by Shanks and etc. There isn't an explicit connection to that and the DF the gorosei are talking about in chapter 1037 though, but like I mentioned, given the build up, it's all heavily heavily implied

I'm almost done watching through Dressrosa now and the arc just seems way too ambitious for its own good. Started off thinking that more than 100 episodes may be too long and the start was slow and some parts seemed like a waste of time, but there's usually a pay-off for those in One Piece and there was for most when side characters turned out to be important after all, but the massive amount of those just made everything drag on for way too long when all the new side characters in the four or five arcs running simultaneously got their own extended battles on top of the usual padding.

There were many highs in between where I just kept watching, but by the time the final battle finally rolled around after the many higher ranking enemies and side characters finished their own battles (after an eternity of basically repeating the same motions without progress for several episodes) and even Bellamy had gotten an entire episode to himself, I was glad when the final battle finally began. That was then interrupted by another two or three episodes of Luffy being protected to regain stamina.

I really don't mind fights, I think Enies Lobby and Alabasta (though I only read the latter) were the peak of storytelling in One Piece, but there was just too much in this arc, despite all the great moments it had (especially some great flashbacks). I think I need to take a short break, I've stopped caring about most side characters in the epilogue which really shouldn't happen; I think I may have gone about this the wrong way even though I was mostly watching while doing other things.

That's kinda the issue specific to the anime. They've been caught up to the manga for so long, and the manga now has regular breaks for Oda's health (only 3 chapters a month iirc) that they have to add so much 'fluff' to the anime. I think I stopped watching in the Thriller Bark / Sabaody time, and from the sounds of things it's only gotten much worse since.

Maybe not. Roger could have told him to do it at some point. Roger knowing would make sense. Maybe that's why they laughed in Raftel, or at least related to it.

The next question of course becomes, if the Gorosei knew that somebody getting rubber powers was so outrageous and connected to something this significant, why wasn't Luffy hounded by the WG from very early on?

Or was he? Maybe Dragon was running interference the entire time? Man, idk.

Yeah seriously. I've watched snippets of the Wano arc and the new director has been pretty solid but it still suffers a lot from the excessive drawn-out'ness that plagues OP since the anime did the time skip.

Here's hoping they don't fuck this moment up

Also I'm really curious if this new... yeah... will be included in the new OP movie.Oda is involved in the writing of that so maybeh?
