Yeah, they really let us see what the fruit can do. A few scenes with Yamato and Momo spectating were straight up gorgeous.

For the manga roadmap, Ch 1090 drops this Wed 08/16, then another break week 08/23, but then we finally return to a 3-weeks on / 1-week off rotation until the next major holiday.

The live action releases in 2 days just a heads up for anyone who cares. I'm cautiously optimistic that it'll be an enjoyable show... but not necessarily a good show. Does that make sense? Like, given all the PR stuff and behind the scenes stuff and how involved Oda is and etc, I feel like I'll enjoy the show for what it is, but it won't be winning any Emmy's or anything lol

Also curious if positive scores have anything to do with the $148M budget ($17M/episode). Curious indeed.

Episode 1 wasn't as bad or as cringy as I expected. Iñaki does a good job of encapsulating Luffy's do-what-I-want and idiotic energy. I will never get used to Luffy's attacks being called Gum-Gum Xxxxx though.

I just finished episode one and it's pretty great. It doesn't come off as bad/too cringe, it had me laughing at a few moments, can't wait to binge the rest.

I might be an odd man out here, but I am fucking loving this series so far. Just starting episode 3. The balance between making the story fit the episodic style and keeping the heart of what makes One Piece One Piece is great. And you can tell it's made with absolute love. The attention to detail is phenomenal

You're not. Most everything I've seen people are pretty positive about it. I'm sure there are some purist haters out there, but seems most people are enjoying it. I guess we'll see what the non-OP fans who watch it think soon enough, though.

It's so weirdly different at points though. No nose or eyebrow. No Garp laugh. I mean... the whole way they're treating Garp's character, as primary antagonist, is off.
But I don't want to harp on this. I'm on ep 6 and super enjoying it. It's just interesting to see what they felt they had to omit when abridging the story. I really, really hope Netflix renews it. It's a super costly renewal, so I hope the positive feedback is enough.

Yeah just finished episode 4. Some really interesting changes but in a way that introduces things earlier then expected, especially the Garp stuff. And the Kuro fight was 100% different then how it happened in the manga lol. I kind of get why they did it though. And I kind of like it. Forgetting about Koby after like the 2nd episode would have been kind of a waste and we don't really have chapter cover stories to give us a taste of what's going on with him. And yeah, I definitely can see some purists really losing their shit. But 4 episodes in, it works and it works really well. But then again these early story arcs are kind of small and quick, so it works for now.

But if they renew, something like the full Vivi Arabasta arc (the early Baroque works stuff, Drum Drum Island with Chopper, and then Arabasta itself with Crocodile) would have to take a full season I'd imagine and would have to include some heavy abridging and story reworks to make them work. And then Water 7 and Enes Lobby, and Skypiea are all pretty hefty arcs on their own that would need the same too.

But still, so far the mix between taking creative liberties for the sake of adapting it to a TV show paired with staying as true as possible to the essence of the source material is working, so who knows. If they get to like season 4, maybe it'll keep working well lol

Ended up binging the whole season and yea, they did a great job. Definitely had the gift of knowing what happens later in the story to be able to make some of the changes. Though some changes would kneecap them if they ever reach certain points of the story but I doubt they'll get there given how far ahead it is and how many seasons they would need to dedicate to it. Alabasta saga alone would require hella cuts to make it fit in 8 episodes.

So finished the series and they captured One Piece. You simply cannot deny that the live action truly is One Piece. There are some haters out there, but I don't understand them. I think some people hate it just to hate it, and some people seem to hate it because...Nami doesn't have huge in your face titties? Which just seems so shallow...and also isn't how her character looks during this part of the story anyway. I'm pretty much fine with all of the narrative changes they did, cause it all works. Every character is still the character from the manga in spirit, action or both.

Watched episode 1 with my fiancee last night. Fiancee loving the chick playing alvida. She falls under the complaining bout nami's tits group. I'm just like babe she's a real person not a anime character. Normal people don't have tits that damn huge without serious implants lol. The guys playing luffy and zoro are fantastic so far. Fiancee took a sec to realize coby is being played by a Trans actor.

I've never been a fan of One Piece because I'm allergic to fun. Seen most of the first episode (edit: of the live action, to be clear), and I have to admit I want to see more. Not bad at all.

I watch the anime and keep up with the manga off and on, but I'm really enjoying it.

I think so far they've done the casting well.

I actually like the live action versions of Luffy and Nami more.
