I read a theory that it might be Conqueror's Haki infused attacks that does the trick, and only 2 people on the Straw Hat crew can do that, Luffy and Zoro. If it's just using regular Haki a certain way, then it opens up Sanji and Jinbei but still leaves more than half of the Straw Hats unable to do any real damage... which is normally what happens anyway, all things considered. They have other things they are good at doing.

We seriously believe none of the attacks they used on the gorosei while escaping Egghead were conqueror's infused? After getting beamed by the labophase defense array, Mars got blasted-off-again from a full-attack of Luffy, Sanji, Franky, Bonney, then came back just fine. The only thing that seemed to have any effect on them at all was the Joyboy haki wave burst, and I guess when Im decided to corpsify Saturn.

Yeah, a lot of folks making the Sonic comparison right now. This isn't as bad as that was, but it's still off. They were def going for some sort of compromise between pre- and post-timeskip versions of Chopper, but committing fully to neither resulted in this different thing that isn't anyone's Chopper. Add in the weird dialog/voice acting choices and the unfinished animation, the end result is uncanny valley af. They have lots of time to fix it, but I don't think there will be enough fan outcry to make it happen. Most of the chatter I'm reading is of the "It's okay that this is different," apologist bandwagon ilk. Definitely more prevalent than the outrage. Recall the Sonic backlash was almost universally negative, and it was the main character / protagonist of that film. There's lower stakes to fixing Chopper.
