I can't recall ever really needing to grind too much? Maybe if you wanna speed up ability gain but it can also be done over time easily

IMO FFIX's Excal II quest means the grind must be optional. I have never played the game without taking a 5 hour detour to hunt for chocographs, though, so take that as hearsay.

Yeah I played with a mod and literally the only thing I used it for was resetting the clock when I got to the final area so I could get Excal 2.

I haven't tried it, but there's another mod called Alternate Fantasy that looks to do some balance updates, the Beatrix stuff, restore some removed dialog, alternate Excal 2 method, and some stuff.

Looks interesting. Mighty tempted to throw all this on my deck and replay 9. I have *some* faith in SE, but they haven't even officially announced anything yet...

I looked at it and tbh I don't love replaying games where the mod drastically changes the gameplay.

I just took the lighter version of that mod which lets you recruit Beatrix
