Defense Grid is actually a great reverse tower defense game, I recommend trying it out.

    Beamdog sale. https://store.steampowered.com/searc...eloper=Beamdog
Enhanced Editions of Planescape Torment, Icewind Dale, Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Neverwinter Nights for $2/$4

Keep in mind, there is some stuff about mods for the original versions. The Steam versions do NOT include the original versions.
The GOG versions of the games have both the enhanced and original editions. So you might want to wait.

Outer Worlds base game for $20 on Steam. The DLC/Bundle price not so great though.

And here it is, big ol' crpg sale. The sale prices aren't quite as good as Steam, but you get both original and enhanced editions.
Also, it's more than Beamdog, you got Wasteland, Divinity, etc. and other stuff on offer.

Also, GoG has a Bethesda sale.
    https://www.gog.com/promo/20210723_bethesda_weekend
    Fallout 1 & 2, $3 each. Morrowind GotY for $4, Oblivion for $5.

I came back to non-FFXI games in the last few years. Some of the ones I have played have been cool, but I more or less regret having played others (even though I respect them as well-made Skinner boxes and they were fun at the time) because they were too derivative or didn't have anything interesting to say. When I look back on Hyper Light Drifter, for instance, I remember that it was pretty fun to play and a solid platformer, but it's not like I gained a new perspective from it or something. I don't feel regret when I read good fiction, but if I spend a hundred hours reading bad fiction then I do regret it. This kind of feeling.

I do not regret Nier Automata, Ni No Kuni 1, Hades, Xenogears, Bastion, and Final Fantasy XII.

I am somewhere between ambivalence and regret about Witcher 3, Ni No Kuni 2, Final Fantasy XV, Pikuniku, Hyper Light Drifter, Celeste, Fez, Legend of Dragoon, Child of Light, Ori 1 & 2, Transistor, and Gris, although the platformers were great fun.

I am working on Tales of Vesperia now, but I can feel it's going to be in the regret category because it's basically a RPG framework covered by a layer of anime tropes. Imagine that I've played nothing from the last 15 years that isn't listed here. What should I be playing instead?

Hmm from the recent years, Hades immediately comes to mind. Then hmm... Persona 5, Hollow Knight, Horizon, God of War, the remake of Resident Evil 2 is very good in my opinion if you're into that, Doom, Prey, The Last of Us... I haven't played but everyone seems to only have good things to say about Disco Elysium. Resident Evil 7 and 8 were pretty decent too.

God of War is the crown jewel masterpiece of the Ps4 imo so gonna put my hat into the ring on that one.

I've been plowing through a backlog the last several months. Persona 5/Royal, God of War, Horizon: Zero Dawn were all top tier games in my book, and my only regret was not playing them sooner. I wish I could have gotten into RE7 on a console, but I just can't do FPS stuff on a console, especially when being chased around the house with a crazed mad man with a shovel.

    FF7 Remake?

Xenoblade Chronicles 1. XC2 might be too anime for you since you don't like ToV, but the gameplay for XC2 is probably better.

If you liked FF12, I think you might like .hack//G.U. the Last Recode remake. Same PS2 era JRPG but remastered for the PC with QOL improvements concept.

Do you like Assassin's Creed? If so, Odyssey was a very good entry in the series.

    Cosigning on God of War.

I have Odyssey on the list, but what are people's thoughts here? I also have Origins bought on the cheap: Should I just skip and go to Odyssey?

Origins was their first foray into the more RPG elements of the newer AC titles and it sort of shows. A lot of things in Odyssey are much more polished than they are in Origins which does result in a different user experience. If you have played Odyssey it's hard to go back.

God of War is definitely one of the best games of the last decade. Marvel's Spider-Man too. Bloodstained if you want to capture some easy Symphony of the Night nostalgia. Hades is also absolutely the best of all current roguelikes.

Origins is quite good but Odyssey is much better. As mentioned, it will be hard to go back to Origins if you played Odyssey first. Valhalla is also really good, but I like Odyssey more.

I'm okay with anime in general but I just don't like trope trains like ToV seems to be.

God of War is PS exclusive, right? My most modern Sony console is PS3 . I have a similar issue with the Zelda series, where I've only ever played Link to the Past but don't want to buy 2 decades of Nintendo systems (or even just their controllers). Same for Xenoblade.

I will keep an eye out for .hack//GU. I remember playing the original .hack series on PS2 back in the day. Thanks for the recommendations.

Greenmangaming is running a Summer Sale. If you're part of their XP (VIP) system you can get a voucher for another 24% off on top of sale price for some pretty good games.

if your PC is up to snuff you can emulate every Zelda game in existence and make most of em look darn pretty while doing it
