At the final boss of ffxi: braver now and I have nothing but good things to say about it. Around 120hrs for a free game that respects the source material and empowers the player to hit a wall with a fight and figure out the solution. I got stuck a lot in chapter 3 and had to retune jobs and/or gear a lot

Also the devs on their discord are very into it. I've made feature requests and bug reports and they were mostly all fixed or incorporated in a day or two.

2 is connected, but the connections between each character's big bad only becomes strong at Chapter 3 or 4, and you can definitely start to forget some of the finer details of some characters' stories by the end.

1 gets connected post-facto by the secret optional ultra boss.

I need to get on that.

In the meantime, I've been playing Relayer. Robot SRPG. Told myself I'd just play a stage or two as a palette cleanser until I decided to go back and finish DQXI S.

    So yeah 32 stages later..

The 2.0 version was apparently majorly overhauled. He was hard but I beat it first try blind. Not sure if the Older version was harder

    Edit: meant to quite Chaz

Braver is the shit. Easily one of the best games I've played in the last few years. And it's still getting updates for content, balancing, qol, improvements, etc.

I finally started it, at least to get past the intro scene last night.

First thing I did after getting my party:

    Spoiler: show

Next task is to go to Ru'lude Gardens

Oh you know what, I'll go outside Jeuno to see if I can grind in Rolanberry fields.

    First enemy is a Gobbue.

Smacked in the face and one-shotted.

Yep this is definitely authentic FFXI, I'm in.

Somewhere in the distance, I hear a cry of "BALANCE!"

Depends on the seller. You can use a card to pay for the Lancer TTRPG stuff.

I like Doom, but Eternal happened to be my least favorite as I’ve never been a huge fan of deathmatch style back to back battles.

That said, it has been 6 years and after a huuuuge ass break I decided to get back to it and finish in finally, am on Urdok which is the 2nd from last mission or something.

Anyways, after spending at least a couple of hours, making through back to back 2000sqft zones with 100 demons in it, plus the crap ass platformer shit I finally manage to align 3 whatever I need to to get back to the Earth…

    …and power failure.

Boot the game back up just to see none of my progress in the level had been saved. Back to the beginning. Last 2 stages were much more frustrating than fun, so I don’t think I’ll get back to it again.

How hard is it to auto save the fucking level progress before checkpoints. Seriously, it is a 2020 game and they are still working with “save and exit” system which absolutely means nothing in a single player game.

Edit:A break for a day helped a lot w/ the frustration, finished it finally, it was a good game!

Now that am done with Doom Eternal, rather than jumping right back into Dark Ages I’ll squeeze Halo: Campaign Evolved.

About an hour into the game and enjoying it a lot so far. No skill tree, no unlockable skills, just pure shooting action. Couldn’t have asked for more from a remake.

If you're into roguelikes a new one came out called Sephiria which is VERY good. Sorta actiony like Hades but different enough with the way the systems play, unlike literal hades clones that have come out

Has pretty meaningful meta progression and build variety AND it's on sale for less than 10 bucks so cheap as shit too. Definitely would rec if yer into the genre

realized i never finished the Starcraft 2 campaigns so am blazin on through them. mechanically they're a wonder, the missions are terrific, the core gameplay is peak, and the strategic layer rules. while not a storytelling masterclass at least Tychus and Raynor and Kerrigan and Mengsk were engaging characters to follow through the first 2 campaigns but the Protoss story is SOOOOOOOO BADDDDD lmao there is 10,000 hours of voice acting and it's anodyne fuckin nothin not a single discernable human emotion amidst the single-human-behavioral-facet-defines-an-entire-fantasy-race trope (noble nobility of nobleness) + framus intersects with the ramistan approximately at the paternostra sci-fi gobbley gook

regardless it's a damn fine single-player RTS shame Blizzard abandoned the genre a decade ago

it's a soft retcon with Raynor + Kerrigan's prior relationship played up heavily and Jim conflicted about trying to save her from zerg corruption / stopping her rampages with a bullet. the story leans fully into a redemption arc / romance melodrama, little hammy but ain't bad.

the protoss storyline on the other hand is very very bad

hitting the Nova missions now then DONE

Starcraft 1 was still in Warhammer 40k type story telling where there aren't any good factions they are all assholes in their own way and there are no happy endings. SC2 threw most of that out the window, and went full on melodrama for the first two expo's and then as was mentioned jumped the shark for the most part for Legacy of the Void. Most of the characters that were carried over were completely different and had very little in common with their SC1 counterparts.
