hey I completed my first shmup yesterday - Gradius 3, a twenty-seven-year old arcade port with severe slowdown automatic and innate bullet time
yes I'm playing 30 y/o games cause I'm a special kind of loser
Disagree but I cant elaborate without spoilering the game even though...
Spoiler: show
Apparently walmart.com has Horizon on sale for $10 today. That is a better value for his time and money any day of the year.

Should have been more specific, because what I was referring to was the game itself, not its relations with the entire series. Because for me where the rest of the series stands doesn't really matter and I don't see why it should stop anyone from playing this game. And the main reason for me to play this is for it's atmosphere, sights etc. Would I buy it over Horizon or any of the above? Nope, but I can't agree that the game doesn't deserve to be played at all.
As for Ico, I actually thought they did it too, just saw there was only the PS3 version, so yeah, colour me surprised too.
Honestly my gripe is SoC leaves you wanting more, but then the game has near zero more to offer you post game (and its not a long game), and the series took a nose dive in the planning stages for the 3rd game in their series. The prospects for getting out of this situation is grim whereas other games are new, shiny, and doing great right now as an IP.

scorching
I've never seen a more confused stance about a videogame. "It's an old PS2 game where you do nothing but these 2 things and there's no plot and no character development but it's not a bad game."
SoTC is a unique and powerful experience that you'll ever love or hate, but you definitely have to try. This utterly confusing stance on the game should be ignored, I'm not really sure what he's trying to say other than Team Ico fucked him.
I hope your kid doesn't have interest in any other old games lol
I have trouble replaying games outside of OOT.
There is nothing confusing about an exceedingly simple combat and platforming system, done well, leaving you wanting when there is nothing to do outside of almost two dozen bosses and zero additional content outside of fighting those same bosses with a slightly different weapon. Same fights. Same weaknesses. Same strategies. Is the game more than the sum of its parts? Sure. But it's a simple simple game, and his time and money can go further, elsewhere. Will he like it? Sure. Will he give it a second thought ever again after beating it? Probably not because they take a decade to release mediocre sequels.
Other games on his list will take him further. Yall seem to forget this isnt about SoC being a good game, its SoC being worth the time and money over the other options he had. Lrn2red

imagine judging a game by its 'sequels' and potential as an IP rather than as the singular experience it is. I can't even with the 'you'll never think about the game again because its sequels take too long to release' when SotC has one of the most memorable climaxes of anything I've ever played and most things I've watched or read.
MCU has ruined critical discernment
franchise or bust boysss get that gay stand alone shit out of my face
Imagine beating SoC, seeing that ending, and going where the fuck is my Ico remaster? Or playing both and going "well they must have released at least 2 stellar games by now" and then you search google...
He put up a list and asked. I think I gave him good reasons to skip over SoC in favor of others on that list. Now if he asked should I ever play it? Fuck yeah. Wait for a weekend when your kid is at grandma's and knock that shit out. Then come back and tell salo thanks for the recommendation and for pushing me to go for another title over this one when I could only pick a couple for christmas.
Or when it's on sale for 10 bucks.

Oh wow you think SotC was a bad game and should never be played? Please elaborate, or stop skimming my posts.

if only a game's worth was in any way influenced by the timeliness or lack thereof of its sequel's release
seemingly inspired by Gred, do kindly take this opportunity to post all the righteous posts
picked up Dead Cells the other day. there are no words for how much I love this game
yeah I tried the first b-side, it was... interesting. I couldn't get past the second or third screen; my wall-jumping tech apparently isn't good enough, I always run out of stamina
400 sounds fair actuallygood job lol
no one said that. in fact the only person that compared SotC with the other games explicitly said they wouldn't recommend it over Horizon or any of the above. you got push back for your stupid reasoning and your stupid claim that 'you're not missing anything by not playing SotC', you stupid stupid man.
nooooooooooooo I don't want to lol
I probably should though. can't hurt to dedicate a couple runs to parry practice; I'm gonna die eventually anyway and the early levels are becoming a breeze. oddly enough I'm beginning to love the sewer (hated it so much at first)
edit: hahaha got my first cursed chest, that's hilarious. I was trying to figure out how the devs could possibly create something truly foreboding in a game that already promises death around every single corner; never in a million years would I have come up with that idea. brilliant
