Yeah the games really shine with the music. I should check if Romancing SaGa 1-3 finally have a 100% done English patch. Been quite awhile since I last checked.

Mostly on and off. Even then I usually do Salmon Run. Though once the Pokemon splatfest I might try to focus on the game more since I want to try out the Splatana Roller

Welcome to the club, friend. Much like you I was late to the party, then blasted through the games.

Will be curious to know your take on 3.

but nah yeah story and characterization and silliness are on point as always, it is simply extremely painful to go to a janky PS3 engine after 0 and the Kiwamis. the combat is functionally AIDS with endless enemy blocking and no decent way to break one outside of the grab which doesn't work much on bosses. no real challenge just endless whittling down giant health bars with the odd hit that gets in. think the encounter design wants you to bait attacks and get behind enemies but the movement is way too janky for it. it is bad gameplay in the year of our lord 2022. it is quite bad.

big tonal change going to Uncle Kaz but it would be more tolerable if the gameplay wasn't so wack. finna burn through this to get to 4 as quickly as possible. 2 is my favorite so far Clan Creator and Cabaret Club minigames slapped and Ryuji #1 big bad.

Been playing some Resident Evil 4 VR on/off the past week. It's a really fucking solid conversion (grenade handling aside) and more people should be able to play it on their choice of headset, but unfortunately it's still a Quest 2 exclusive. It's my fifth playthrough of RE4 in general and this one is leaving me the most giddy due to the new perspective. Extremely tasteful touching-up of the game environment textures and some assets (aside from ignoring animals for some reason). I know it's a Gamecube game at heart, but the presentation is extremely clean and consistent which I wasn't expecting. Only just wish it had some more environment interactions (and fixed grenades), but the majority of the props are static as they were in the original.

I figured the game would be easier in VR since the default settings allow 360 movement with run & gun (you can lock it to the original's limitations if desired), but I've died a couple times already just being caught offguard from behind, or fumbling with reloading. Had zero issues with the initial village ambush though, but the ease of being able to run laps on that particular map to keep distance makes it a bit of a non-issue.

Just hope the environment lighting effects are maintained later in the game when I hit the night time or fire-sections, since dynamic light sources are a general weakpoint of Quest 2's hardware.

Semi-related, but I didn't realize the later RE4 ports to PC/last-gen consoles had visual changes/touch-ups as well different from one another. Figure they'd just be basic-ass ports like the 'HD' ones on 360/PS3 which really made it obvious that the original game targeted 480p with low-rez textures everywhere that 480i hid well. Wonder what the modern definitive version is these days, since the Gamecube used to be the gold standard that nearly every subsequent release was lacking a couple graphical tricks it made use of.

Yeah. . 3 was hard for me after 0 and Kiwami. I wanted to quit it, but my friend insisted I get through it. I don't regret it in the end, but your assessment is spot on how I felt.

Did you ever see the promo for 2, set to the Majima Construction theme?

ya oof i finished it and that was not a pleasant experience. into 4 now and while the PS3 system still not great already more enjoyable with them cleaning out the most egregious issues with the combat. Saejima returns...

in other gaming news i got into the Darktide beta and it is based af. gunplay is great and melee as crunchy as Vermintide's, whenever a boss fight pops off you get Doomesque rip and tear industrial thrash to slay to. day 1 buy (think it'll be on Gamepass so not really but u know).

This may seem silly but anyone playing Pikmin Bloom? It's basically walking motivation, but I would not mind having some friends on there!

Was going to play Yakuza 3 but decided on Bravely Default 2 instead since I was in the mood for a classic RPG.

Enjoying it so far though there are some QOL changes I wish they had such as markers on doors to help make shops/quests/etc. more obvious and a quest log

Probably a good choice to hit up BD2 for now. Yakuza 3's first few hours are a complete fucking slog. Thank god it was my first Yakuza which I went in with zero expectations, but it does pick up pretty well after the initial story arc.
I really should dust off my PS3 and play some Yakuza Dead Souls that's been in backlog on that series for years. Was hoping it'd get the Kiwami approach (it could really use a solid framerate + some control tweaks), but I doubt it'll ever get it at this point.

Jumped the gun a bit in BD2. Zooming out in a town will show icons/sidequests. Though still no quest log unfortunately.

Other than that enjoying the game a lot. Just got the thief asterisk and holy crap I didn't see that plot turn coming.

I will say that the sidequests in BD2 are understated, but go some ways towards building the world and have some chains that span most of the story.

The rewards aren't always great, but they're fun to do if you're invested in some of the story bits.
