I never got around to the post-game content, was going to wait until I had a PS5 for that to play it (and the DLC) with a decent framerate/load time, since I believe you could get a locked 60fps at around 1080p on that system.

Also them adding gameshark-tier items in an update which I wasn't big on, since it's just there in your inventory. Reminds me of the ez-mode accessories from XVI which I'm also not big on just having it sit there. Man, the whole situation around XV still annoys/boggles me. There's potentially a great game there, but it still needs so much fucking work to get to that point on all aspects of the game.
(combat, story, pacing, quest quality, Ch13 still being a complete slog post-changes.....and the latter half of the game becoming completely on-rails because they just had to finish the game).

I would fucking love to read a post mortem from the key devs for what all was planned, what got scrapped, and maybe showing us some more of the VS XIII early builds they had going on both PS2 and PS3 before scrapping it to restart a third time on PS4. There's got to be a full documentary's worth of content to explore.
Yeah, the game had a feeling that it had some great ideas that couldn't develop into a full product due to the development hell it was in. It was also in the years when SE was in an identity crisis.

I recall Tabata saying he was only getting 3 hours of sleep during XV development, credit to the guy who was able to get the game on its feet in 2 years. I am sure he has a lot to say but looks like the guy simply closed that chapter with SE for good.

Dug out the snes classic and playing games for my 4.5 year old. Super Mario World first because he was in a big Mario kick at the time. And now I just beat Super Metroid for the first time in my life. Great game even by today’s standards, though it would definitely benefit from losing some of the obscurity.

If I had played this game when it originally came out, it would have done one of two things: forever changed the kinds of games I played throughout my life, or I would have given up very early on if I got stuck on something and nothing would be different. I’m trying to remember which kind of gamer I would have been back then if I ran into a typical Metroid style roadblock I couldn’t figure out, and all I can recall from that era which had a similar situation is trying to beat the SNES Lion King level where you had to swing on monkey tails. I didn’t give up on that level for a very long time, but I don’t think I actually did get through it. Honestly, I think the only thing that would have stopped me from beating Super Metroid at the time is if I had the coordination to do wall jumps.

Anyway, I think I’ll play Link to the Past next. It’ll get me into the mood for the new Zelda

Super Metroid didn't need you to learn wall-jumping or Shinesparking to complete the game. Those skills were only needed if you wanted to 100% the game or speedrun. However, if you fell into the pit with the friendly aliens, you were forced to learn how to do those things to get out. I did like how Nintendo went about teaching the player at that part. No tutorial message or written hint on how to do it. Just 4 random aliens that you couldn't target doing a wall jump or the shinespark in front of you, over and over again, and that was your only hint that Samus could emulate them.

Yeah, and that’s what I’m saying. If I didn’t have the dexterity to do that wall jump I would have just been stuck there. The game shows you it can be done, but spin jump, hit wall, make sure you’re pressing opposite direction of wall, and only then jump, while also getting the timing right to do that a few times in a row might have been above my 7 year old self.

Started playing Core Keeper recently since it just went into 1.0.

If you like survival crafting games, it's great. It's sorta like you combined minecraft, terraria, and a dash (a small dash) of stardew.

Terrible "fight" because it's like pushing forward and holding square IIRC. But man that music was ultra hype. You could feel the epicness.

And then the rest of the game from that point was just so horribly underwhelming.

Check out Nodebuster, I just finished it in a fairly quick 2 sessions. It's chill retro bullet heaven where you target and destroy different shapes, but it also has an exponential upgrade system that had my 'cookie clicker' brain in overdrive. $2.99

it's been years since I played Fallout Shelter and they just released Elder Scrolls Castles which is essentially the same thing so I thought I would check it out, with low expectations, and idk if I just don't remember it from Shelter but the monetization is egregious in Castles, even for a mobile game. Half the rewards for leveling up your kingdom are locked behind subscribing on a weekly or monthly basis, constant ingame popups of bundles or items to buy, tons of 'watch obnoxious ads to skip a timer' etc etc. worse than I expected.

Started playing a bit of Kunitsu-Gami, tl;dr on gamepass it's a great option. Worth keeping an eye out for a sale on Steam, but maybe not quite worth full price. It's got some very interesting mythical Japanese culture with super weird monsters.

A typical stage has you running around a small village level 1) setting the path of the goddess to reach the heart of corruption, 2) running around freeing villagers and purging other sources of corruption, 3) using tokens you find to assign combat roles to the villagers and placing them around the stage, and then 4) at night fighting waves of enemies to protect the goddess. So far the placement of villagers is just as, if not more, important than your own combat skills and it's been a lot of fun so far. My gamepass runs out in 5 days (first time in close to 6 years) so I may not get to finish it.

PS Store too if you want to go the console route. Definitely recommend checking this out, it caught me completely off guard because the trailer I saw before the demo came out completely failed at conveying the nature of this game and it's a pretty interesting take on tower defense and it's pretty cool that Capcom released something so unique (and with a great style)

Hollow Knight's Path of Pain feels vindictive, not getting an achievement for completing it feels cruel.

    Assuming you mean Persona 5?

What achievement in that game are you missing?

Got it for free with the purchase of a 7800x3d, been trying to get through the campaign since it came out and have put in a whopping 6ish hours so far. Being an adult sucks.

Afaik this means you're almost done with the campaign so don't worry ;P j/k I know the game has some great content other than the campaign and a lot of people are gushing over it (except PCGamer apparently, which gave it a lower score than Gollum, lmao), I plan to check it out someday too.

P5 is the Pantheon of Hallownest and the hardest achievement in Hollow Knight

as someone who has read the Horus Heresy and will one day paint the Adepta Sororitas figures he bought i am extremely biased, but Space Marine 2 is rad as hell. in that Doom, Titanfall, Wolfenstein mix of a shooter focused around its balls to the wall campaign (extremely rare these days) with enough serviceable other modes to justify the price.
