It's like 3.25 a gallon for low test, Capped at $4 by the state regulatory commission. I remember paying 4.37 for low test in seattle a few years back. I'm seeing like 4.25 for high test out here in TX.

Gas is still so cheap here. It's kinda staggering.

I'd love to see what people do when it finally get to 6-7 a gallon, let alone 8-10.

duh. gas companies will clamor for a change from imperial measurement to metric like the rest of the world. gas is now 2$ a liter, cheap gas for all!

You know americans would fall for it too.

Many countries with high gas prices simply have exorbitant gas taxes.

They also have better urban infrastructure than the US. Unlike most other developed countries in the world, we went horizontal and they went vertical. It's a myriad of problems based on density of population, land mass, and availability of public transportation.

I'd use public transport if it didn't take me 10 hours to ride a train from Dallas to Austin to see my parents, then another hour to go from Austin to the hill country, then another 3 hours of walking the rest of the distance home. Hell, I can't even use public transport in Dallas efficiently. Takes nearly 2 hours to get from my apartment to the airport, when I can drive that in 30 with heavy traffic not even touching the direct route toll roads to the airport.

I can't go barhopping in uptown. I'd get off of work at 5, leave for the tram station at 8, wait 40 mins to get to uptown, and have to leave at 11 to catch the last tram up to where I parked my car, then drive 15 mins back to my apartment.

Those road taxes in Europe pay for their excellent public transport. I'd have held off owning a car till very recently if I had the kind of public transport available in the UK or Germany or Japan.

Obligatory yeah yeah yeah it's still early, but the projection this morning for Irma has it smashing into the Caribbean and then rolling straight up and crossing across central Florida from south to north. Fuck.

I'm hearing some say Irma will be Cat 5 with the fastest winds ever.

It should die down a lot when it hits the bigger islands like Cuba and maybe hit FL as 3.

It'll literally blow it's load on the Caribbean and become nothing but a rainy day in Florida. Our hurricane shield has been stronk lately and I'm sick of betting against it. We escape this with nothing more than small flood which is nothing new lately as our state has had increasing floods from even normal storms taking awhile to recede.

The last two posters may want to rethink their stances.

Irma now one of the top 4 strongest hurricanes in the history of the Atlantic basin with winds sustained at 175MPH,

    http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/storm_graphi...e_and_wind.png

If this track is maintained it will stay entirely over water. I would expect a Category 5 landfall in this instance, albeit maybe not at peak intensity. Somewhere around 160MPH would be my expectation in that scenario.

Please take this seriously if you live in FL.

Irma's center was expected to move near or over the northern Leeward Islands late Tuesday and early Wednesday, the hurricane center said. The eye was later expected to pass about 50 miles from Puerto Rico late Wednesday.

Authorities warned that the storm could dump up to 10 inches of rain, cause landslides and flash floods and generate waves of up to 23 feet.

A hurricane warning was posted for Antigua and Barbuda, Anguilla, Montserrat, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Martin, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Maarten and St. Barts, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. and British Virgin islands. A tropical storm warning was in effect for Guadeloupe and Dominica.

Meanwhile in Florida, residents took advantage of the Labor Day holiday Monday to empty many store shelves of drinking water and other supplies in advance of the storm, which could affect the state by the weekend. Also Monday, Florida Gov. Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for the state's 67 counties to give local governments "ample time, resources and flexibility" to prepare.

For a thought of how the forecasters are consistently getting their worst case scenario here, only like two models had the storm veering this far south and now most of them do.

None of the models, or any of the forecasters, anticipated it to be even 155MPH today. Every one of them had it still a day out from reaching (not attaining) near category 5 intensity. It has since eclipsed that intensity by almost 25 MPH.

Okay so maybe it dips to a cat 4 after hitting the bigger islands instead of a cat 3 lol.
