India and China, the world's two most populous countries, are locked in a territorial dispute along their mountainous 2,175-mile frontier.

No shots have been fired since 1975, with troops occasionally engaging in hand-to-hand scuffles and throwing rocks, as early reports indicated was the case Tuesday.

The dispute dates to the 1860s, when British colonial rulers in India drew a border that was later disputed by China.

India's been having another border dispute recently with Nepal and they are constantly ready to fuck shit up with Pakistan. They're probably not crazy about Bangladesh either. It's difficult to say they're super militant because they have a much more fractured society in general but India is usually geared to go.

The weapons used by China.

The image that emerged on Thursday showed crude weapons that appeared to be made from iron rods studded with nails. It was passed to the BBC by a senior Indian military official on the India-China border, who said the weapons had been used by the Chinese.

Defence analyst Ajai Shukla, who first tweeted the image, described the use of such weapons as "barbarism". The absence of firearms in the clash dates back to a 1996 agreement between the two sides that guns and explosives be prohibited along the disputed stretch of the border, to deter escalation.

Australia has been getting hit with a state-based cyber attack. They've refrained from announcing the country of origin.

Australian government and institutions are being targeted by an ongoing sophisticated state-based cyber hack, Prime Minister Scott Morrison says.

Mr Morrison said the cyber attacks were widespread, covering "all levels of government" as well as essential service providers and businesses.

He did not identify a specific state actor, adding that no major data breaches had been made.

The activity has been increasing in frequency over many months, he said.

He said the government's cyber experts knew it was a state cyber actor "because of the scale and nature of the targeting and the trade craft used."

"There are not a large number of state-based actors that can engage in this type of activity," he added.
