Sitting in the medical library and just read this to the residents and their overseeing MD, which triggered quite a discussion of legislatures forcing providers to implement care that is not best practice. It's fucking crazy. So if I even refer a patient for HRT, that would potentially get my license revoked.

Can confirm. Became dependent on opioids while hospitalized for a month. Started out on Oxy, but became tolerant over a long period. Now I'm on Morphine pretty much 24/7. Shit is slowly destroying my body. I'm likely going to die young from an exploded heart. The fact that that shit's legal on the federal level but weed isn't it s a pretty solid indictment of the American healthcare system.

Damn, hospital didn’t wean you for that month? You ideally shouldn’t go from 4-6 times daily PO dosing or q2h IV dosing to home without dramatically scaling back throughout your stay and before discharge.

Find yourself a methadone clinic and someone capable of motivational interviewing my friend, before you kill yourself. Idk where you live, but if it’s not flyover country, there’s probably some community resources available to you.

They weaned me off of my Morphine PCA, which was every 10 minutes. I also got 1 bolus dose per 12hr shift. Then they sent me home with a script for Oxycodone, which is what I was normally taking for my arthritis and chronic pain (I worded my previous post poorly. I was already on Oxycodone for a couple of years prior to being admitted.) PT was also supposed to work with me during the week leading up to my discharge, but only showed up the night before. I ended up fucking up my knees within a few days of getting out by trying to get right back into my normal routine after being bedridden for a month. They've only gotten worse over time, despite going to outpatient PT, and at this point I'm not sure they'll ever fully recover.

I appreciate the concern and advice. I live in North Carolina currently, and my doctors are all with Duke. I've shared my concerns with my primary, but his thought process is that if I'm in too much pain to function without the meds, then I should stay on them. On the other hand, I'm moving out of state soon (to Kentucky), so I may be forced off of them anyway. I doubt any doctor would be willing to write Morphine scripts for a new patient, much less in Kentucky.

I live in Kentucky, and yeah, it's going to be hard to find a PCP to write large doses of morphine, no matter where you move to. Plus, we won't be able to pull up your narcotic history outside of the state, it's a different reporting system. Def get medical records, even from pcp. Something to build the case saying "I really have been on these for years...here's why". They'd be a bit more willing to prescribe you narcotics. Still, you gotta get off that shit.

My dad was on Percs for like 30 years. His pcp got busted for growing pot and left his practice. New doc came in and stopped my dad cold turkey. 3 months of terrible GI related withdrawals. Told him to start smoking pot, which he did. Been off the opioids ever since.

Yeah, that's where I run into a problem lol. I have crippling social anxiety and wouldn't even begin to know where to get it. It's definitely helped on the rare occasion where I've been able to try it though. I've had people recommend driving to Cincinnati since it's about 10 minutes from the new place and weed is legal there medicinally, but I really don't want to get caught crossing state lines with the shit. I also don't even know if a doctor in OH would prescribe for an out-of-state patient, but I'm leaning towards "probably not". Glad to hear your dad was able to kick the shit. Gives me a small glimmer of hope.

Not the first. Metformin is sometimes used off-label for weight loss. Have seen it prescribed with antipsychotics to prevent weight gain associated with those types of meds.
