Nov 15 (Reuters) - The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Friday confirmed highly pathogenic form of bird flu in a person in Oregon.

The infected person is linked to a previously reported outbreak tied to a commercial poultry operation in the state, where the virus has been confirmed in 150,000 birds, the state health authority said.

A total of 52 people from eight states have tested positive in the U.S. this year as the virus has infected poultry flocks and spread to more than 500 dairy herds, the CDC said.

All the cases were farm workers who had known contact with infected animals, except for one person in Missouri.

Doesn't seem like it's worth worrying about (yet).

ok the raw milk thing is just weird to me. Because we have dairy goats at home and are constantly drinking raw milk from them the way people phrase it sounds weird to me because it makes it sound like the raw milk is dangerous and not the bacteria that grow in it if you don't handle it correctly. Nothing wrong with raw milk inherently. It is just bad because companies don't handle perishables properly so people get sick.

That being said getting rid of regulations and safety measures is the stupidest thing I can imagine and back sliding in food and medicine safety genuinely is scary considering how bad it was.

This is important point, we pasteurize because companies can't be trusted to not cut corners for pennies. They'll get a fine, and we'll die. Not an optimal trade off.

Yeah that's the only issue, but people lack the nuance lol. People say "raw milk is good" and they quickly turn around and blame pasteurization on why we have trans people nowadays and men aren't murdering deer with their bare hands. Side tangent, there's a great Behind the Bastards episode on the crisis of Masculinity and how it's a recurring thing basically every 30yrs where grifters like Tate pop up to take advantage of it.

They even cite how it's called "rape seed" and it's because it rapes your body of nutrients! And not because it's named from the latin name...

Yeah, drinking raw milk that you understand the chain of custody of is fine, but telling crunchy yoga moms that raw milk is good would create a demand at farmer's markets that unscrupulous resellers would take advantage of.

That said, I think it is far more likely that they would simply resell pasteurized whole milk (perhaps cut with cream) as raw instead of spoilt raw milk. ... In the same way that many more tons of organic corn is sold in the US than organic corn is produced.

It's still a disgusting idea, but it could be worse I guess? Granted it's a slippery slope that I don't trust a Trump administration to not start shoving people down...

I do. I'm honest with them. But it takes time to get that level of trust. Boy do I wish it really was as simple as "stop taking them". You don't need to go to a camp, which is why the idea is ridiculous. These people end up better because they're not in a shitty home or work environment, not because they're off meds..
