In the future..
Child gets disease that could have easily been prevented by a vaccine but they are banned.
The child is very sick and has a high fever.
That fever needs to come down asap! Child needs medicine.
Can't do! Tylenol is banned now!
Oh you're gonna be able to get it soon then
I didn't realize RFK jr thinks a flu shot gave him a speech disorder.

He's a (former, to the extent that's possible) fan of illicit injectables that takes his family swimming in a poop stream while eating roadkill.
We're in this situation because way too many people "did their own research" without critical thinking skills.
Have you lived a life that involves giving yourself a parasitic brain worm? Congrats, you're more healthy than RFK Jr. #MAHA
Not only that, plenty of people think "did my own research" means "I know what I'm talking about". Smart people who know how to read words somehow think it's the equivalent of knowing how to apply the knowledge correctly, check their logical errors, and interpret what the various data mean in any given work.
You know... Morons.
Trump loves the uneducated because they don't question anything and assume rich people are super smart are trustworthy because what they say makes sense, even when it doesn't. And so, they fill in any blanks with their own interpretation like they would a book.
"Did my own research" means they listened to MAYBE 3 podcasts/Youtube video essays in the background that were all one sided and provided no contrasting information or even sources for the information they were giving (in the realm of Rogan it's him just making shit up that he thinks he MAYBE heard somewhere at some point and people take it as fucking fact)
There's a reason PhD/Doctorate and even Masters level classes revolve around tons and tons of reading and interpreting research of tons of sources...you're supposed to be an expert in your field at that point. However big words and having to think critically are gone, this country is cooked when it comes to education. There's 0 hope in my eyes for coming back from where it is and we're just declining more and more with AI now, having people just toss everything into using AI to sum up things poorly. I love seeing posts on Reddit where an AI bashes together 3 pieces of research on Finesteride, reports back the facts wrong and when you look at the studies they were all bullshit with like 10 participants or something too.
It blows my mind that the right is so aggressively pro-birth, constantly preaching about how important it is for people to have more kids because birth rates are falling. At the same time, they push policies that they know, and I mean the ones in power who pretend to be clueless but absolutely understand what they are doing, will lead to the same people they want to multiply dying earlier than they should.
One of the first replies to that tweet
We need more negative incentives for being unhealthy. Maybe jail for fat people. Community service for smokers. Labor camps for drinkers.
We can make this country healthy if we’re willing to force a lot of people to do things they don’t want to do.
Being unhealthy isn't a choice it's a lack of choices. 2k cals of junk costs 10x less and is way more convenient than 2k of fresh good healthy food.
They make more money keeping us unhealthy, just business. Food deserts are a thing, too.
Who wants to spend an hour of their day balling up patties, cooking, prepping, washing pans and dishes, when you can hit up MCD's and it costs less when you count your labor value.
In the end you get more/better doing it yourself, but we're just broken. You end up throwing away your tomatoes and onions etc and the burgers sit in the fridge rotting. So you go to the store and do it again and throw half of it away. It just doesn't work.
Portion sizes are too big. Sugar in everything. calories per serving are deceptive. Portions do not match servings. The whole thing is designed for you to fail. God forbid school actually teach nutrition and time management and financial knowledge.
I hate to be that guy, but I'm going to agree with convenient, but not cost at all.
$6.70 here, and in california? $7.50. 10lb bag of chicken quarters, putting it at 67-80 cents a lb across the country. Yeah boneless skinless may be 4-5 bucks a lb but that's because (this is where convenience comes in) nobody wants to debone their own chicken. There cheaper options than the unhealthy shit, but nobody wants to actually do the work. The dried beans you have to hydrate over night? cheaper than any junk food, etc.
It's not more expensive to eat healthy(but yes it sure as hell is more inconvneient/takes more work)
Also mcdonalds was a bad example lmao wendy's would have been more fitting since they actually have a value menu. McDonald's just don't give af anymore and charges w/e they want (4.50 for a mcchicken when wendy's still has a $1.99 chicken sandwich literally the same size). Shopping knowledge is really the issue here rather than the food itself but I've been budgeting on min wage for most of my life, so yeah lol
If you account for your time and your gas, it adds up fast
People easily ignore the hour of your life cause you did it yourself. Time is money. It has a value.
Only said MCD because it's synonymous with fast food. $ per cal probably goes to little caesars. $6 for ~2300 cals
Riding a bike already puts you in the top 10% by default. you're not really the target of the topic.
I think you both have valid points and while they're a multitude of factors, so much of it boils down to time (and, time is money), which you'll all covered.
Another factor is infrastructure: Lack of walkable cities and transit. I remember spending time in Europe and despite eating out quite frequently for meals, I'd actually lost weight when I came back because I was just walking so much since it was easier to get to place. Of course, the food also wasn't shit quality and smaller portions helped.
I think people underestimate the extra steps you take getting too/off trains and such. Hell, even the times where I'm flying with multiple connecting flights from coast to coast, all the walking around I'll do at the airport adds up to 10k in the day pretty easy.
I feel like you can get screwed on both ends though: If you're on the lower socioeconomic end, but having to juggle multiple jobs, I can see being wiped out pretty easily after work (that was me right after school). If you're in the middle or even upper middle class. . sure, you can afford better choices, but depending on where you live (major city for me), there were times where I was working with such intensity that I was very hit or miss about meal prep. Add to that if you're single or live alone, it takes some time to get a sense of how much to prep/freeze. Not saying that's ok. . but I can also see where people'd be "eh screw it, I'm just going to grab something quick". i still do that myself, but I'll also realize 'oh I need to lock this back in'.
That said I can also a relate with CS's point: I remember being broke and how to shop on a budget if I need when it comes to food. But sadly not everyone does that well.
