I started FFXI in like sophomore year of HS, but I didn't play seriously (get to Level 75) until frosh year of college... and then got stuck trying to help retards who couldn't hack it try to do end game until I said fuck it in my senior year. Got 2 years of FFXI in its best form before Mizuki Ito forever ruined my life.

I was an adult (23 I guess?), and my roommate managed a Gamestop, and brought the beta disc home and gave it to me. Played pretty heavily until 2007 or 2008, and when I quit, thought it was some sort of horrible addiction, lol. In hindsight, if FFXI was an addiction, it was the cheapest and most benign one I've ever had.

When I started playing FFXI the first month or two I was literally that annoying kid on chats that typed like "y rnt u cming 2day" until the community um... hashed that out with me lol.

I also remember being in Ventrilo servers or on telephone conference calls (remember those?) with my voice cracking. I bet the other people thought I was absolutely insufferable.

I signed up and got accepted into the Beta test for the game on ps2. I received the hard drive and modem attachment for my ps2 for free plus a free copy of the game. I was 19 and in my second year of college. Just turned 44 last month.
