It's incredibly stupid of him? McDavid is one of the faces of the NHL. It doesn't matter if he's only 20, he's won an Art Ross, he's in a plethora of commercials, he's displayed every night in highlights whenever he plays, the NHL has begun plastering his face everywhere like they do with Crosby and Ovechkin and etc etc. He has millions of fans globally many of whom are women, ethnic, LGBTQ or just young and impressionable. And the simple act of dressing as Trump, while not offensive in and of itself, just shows that he's incredibly ignorant to the world and what's happening in it.

Why you think it's not a big deal is because you most likely do not fall under any of the categories I mentioned above.

It's 1 thing if it's just some random guy at a party. But this guy is, whether he wants to be or not, an icon to millions of people. And with that there has to be a certain amount of common sense and responsibility.

Because one is a Halloween costume and the other is a racist gesture. One is maybe a little in poor taste and the other is a racist gesture on national TV during the World Series.

Edit: It's also beside the point but I never said I wanted him gone for the rest of the World Series. I said I thought it was hilarious they belayed his suspension because it would be "unfair to the Astros" to suspend him during the World Series. How long he was suspended for is irrelevant, the fact that they put off his suspension is what's absurd.

I like to think of sports more as entertainment and not a platform for social change. I don’t use my job as a platform to influence people.

That’s perfectly reasonable. I’m not saying he has to be political and voice his opinions, but when he dresses up as an incredibly controversial political figure, because of who he is and the attention he garners he kind of put that burden on himself

Shhh, don't tell him he wouldn't have been suspended for the world series anyways as he would have immediately appealed and that the hearing wouldn't have happened till after the world series, so they negotiated a non appeal-able suspension and fine instead.
